There is a menu item called Style and formatting in Word's Format menu items, style options that let us format the same in different articles so that the files edited at different times have the same style. Here, let's make a clear look at what a style is. A style is actually a definition of the format of a part of the text. In style items on the Format menu, we can see that word has actually provided a variety of styles, such as Heading 1, Heading 2, body, and so on. And we can also set the format to meet our requirements, through the style manager, to save these formats into a style, so that when you encounter the same "format", you can directly call the style to complete the formatting.

In the same article, if you want different text to have the same format, you can generally use the "format brush" to copy the format, and to make different articles have the same format, you must open more than one article at the same time to copy the format. But in fact, by choosing a preset style, we can easily have the same format for both of these situations.

For example, to print a booklet made up of more than one article, in order to make the booklet more perfect, add all the titles and page numbers of all the articles as a table of contents in front of the booklet, and adjust the font size to the right side of the page, and insert the space bar, very laborious. So the first way I used it was to use the tab Stop command on the Format menu. After you press the TAB key, the page number on the right can be roughly aligned, but the interval between the page number and the topic on the left is not the same, and if you insert or delete an article somewhere, the corresponding page number will be written in the table of contents, which is cumbersome. In fact, the use of style to add a directory is very convenient, it does not need to enter any text in the file, and the operation is simpler, easier to modify. The specific approach is this:

  I. Define the style of the TOC title:

First select any article in the title, the title of the font, font size, bold, color and other font format definition and center, left and right indents, line spacing, such as the definition of paragraph format. Then choose styles and Formatting from the Format menu to create a new style.

  Two. Set the style of the directory title:

Select the text for the first directory heading in the file, choose the Style option from the Format menu, and select the style you just defined, and the other TOC header text is handled the same way.

  Three. Insert Table of Contents:

Move the cursor to the location where you want to insert the title of the table of contents, select the Index and table of contents item from the Insert menu, and choose Catalog Card to determine whether the page number, leader style, and display level are displayed. This creates the directory we need at the cursor, which contains the title of the TOC with the selected text and produces the corresponding page number.

  Four. Update of catalog:

If you later insert new content somewhere in the article, then all of the page numbers will be changed, if not the style to produce the corresponding table of contents, but also the page number of the directory to manually change, using the above methods, only select the directory, click the right mouse button, select the Update field, The directory title and the corresponding page number of the directory are all updated.

Previously, in the long article editing, to move the cursor to somewhere in the article, need to move the scroll bar or through the positioning method to complete, very cumbersome. And the use of style to add a table of contents, only to use the mouse to click on the resulting directory of a title, the cursor will be quickly positioned to the corresponding title page number, the realization of the rapid movement of the cursor.
