Fred Wilson, a well-known American venture capitalist, wrote an article in his blog on Tuesday about users' motivation to accept new technologies, I used a single sentence to summarize why iPhone, Facebook, and other 10 tech products or services were favored by users.
IPhone: mobile browser and killer touch screen interface.
Facebook: A practical social network.
Wii: action-based game user interface.
Hulu: Watch your favorite TV programs on excellent web user interfaces.
Flipcam: a video camera suitable for user pockets.
Rock Band: everyone can become a rock star in just a few minutes.
Mafia Wars: social games for social networks.
Blogger: printed media for all users.
Pandora: A simple and personalized radio station.
Twitter: It takes less than one minute for everyone to write a blog.
Wilson said that in most cases, breakthrough products or services can bring new experiences to consumers. For example, a social network exists before Facebook, but not a social network service goes deep into user life like Facebook; a mobile browser exists before the iPhone, however, they all have a big gap with computer browsers. Before Pandora, there were already personalized network radio stations, but they were not very easy to use.
Therefore, the key factor for consumers to accept new technologies lies in the brand-new user experience, which must be simple, useful, and interesting. It is far from enough to become a pioneer in a new technology market. Developers must also make products or services easy to use.Sometimes a small improvement cannot completely surpass the opponent, and thorough innovation and change are the key.
