Analysis of Storage Methods
I learned about the storage method some time ago. I first wrote an article to review what I learned and consolidate it.
Currently, there are three storage methods: Das, NAS, and San.
Next we will compare these three storage methods and analyze the different values of each storage, so that you can make reasonable configuration based on your actual situation.
Das
Introduction
Direct-Attached Storage (DAS)
The connection channel between direct-connection storage and server hosts usually uses SCSI connections. As the server's CPU processing capability is getting stronger and stronger, the storage hard disk space is getting larger and the number of hard disks on the array is increasing, the SCSI channel will become an IO bottleneck; the server host's scsi id resources are limited, and the SCSI channel connections that can be established are limited.
It has been in use for nearly 40 years. As user data continues to grow, especially when there are hundreds of GB or more, its problems in backup, recovery, expansion, disaster recovery and other aspects have become increasingly plagued by system administrators.

NAS
Introduction
Network Storage Technology (Network storagetechnologies) implements data transmission based on the standard network protocol, and provides file sharing and data backup for computers in different operating systems, such as Windows, Linux, and Mac OS; supports 24-hour continuous download of Bt, FTP, HTTP, eMule, and NZB. As a multimedia center, it provides multimedia file streaming services for Sony playstation3, Microsoft Xbox, Apple iPad, iPhone, and Android mobile tablets; provides HTTP/FTP services for personal websites; supports backup and restoration of timemachine for Apple iMac/Mac mini/macpro/MacBook/MAC air (including black apple.
The topology and structure diagram are shown below.

San
Introduction
The storage area network (SAN) is a centralized and high-speed storage network consisting of multi-vendor storage systems, storage management software, application servers, and network hardware, can help you make full use of the value of your business information
San can be used to bypass the bottleneck of traditional networks. It supports direct and high-speed data transmission between servers and storage devices. It is applicable to Unix, NT, OS/400, OS/390, and other operating systems. The SAN storage area network is a high-speed optical fiber storage network independent of the server network system, which uses high-speed optical fiber channel as the transport body and uses SCSI-3 protocol as the storage access protocol. the storage system is networked to achieve real high-speed shared storage. With the rapid development of Internet and network technologies, data in modern information systems is exploding. data security and job continuity are more important than hardware devices, high-speed data access and smooth and simple resizing are increasingly urgent. In the past, storage technology only used storage devices as a subsidiary device of servers. large-capacity data exchange between servers can only rely on traditional networks. In terms of speed, security, and cross-platform sharing, unlimited resizing cannot meet the requirements of IT technology development. SAN technology came into being in this situation.
The following figure shows its topology and structure.

Analysis of Three storage solutions:
The direct connection mode is used for the DAS. When there is not enough space and more space is required, the required hard disk size is directly installed on the physical machine. This is economical and not troublesome for small companies.
NAS adds a network based on the DAS so that users can configure their own virtual hard disks through the network. It is easy to install directly on a physical machine. It is suitable for companies of a certain scale. For small companies that have just started out, the economic burden is a little heavy, and the price ratio is not good for them.
San breaks through the bottleneck of the traditional network by means of reasonable optimization of the storage network architecture of NAs, achieving direct and high-speed data transmission between servers and storage devices. It is more suitable for large companies with a certain economic base. It has a large cost, but it is easier to manage and requires professional personnel to maintain it.
Cost analysis:
DAS only needs to consider hard disk costs.
NAS increases storage network costs, including equipment, network construction, and O & M.
San consumption is different from that of NAS Based on different devices.
NAS and San must be maintained by persons with certain professional skills. High cost.
