The wireless broadband technology has been favored by many people. Its excellent performance has become a leader in wireless technology. Even so, it also has many drawbacks. So what is the bottleneck of its development? Let's take a look at the problems in the development of wireless broadband access products.

As a new access technology, broadband wireless access technology has its unique advantages and market space compared with the traditional last-mile access methods, such as DSL, FTTP, and HFC. There is a reasonable combination of costs, bandwidth, QoS Assurance, security, mobility, and coverage distance. Broadband Wireless Access can be used as a major means of broadband access for emerging operators or operators without corresponding cable resources, or as a supplementary means of broadband access for existing operators, however, if you want to use wireless broadband access to achieve the last mile of access, you still need to solve the following problems.

1. Cost Problems

Although wireless broadband access products use their standardization and adopt core technologies and standard chips, their costs are greatly reduced compared with non-standard broadband wireless products, it is already the most economical solution that a new operator can find to carry out broadband data services. Obviously, it is much higher than DSL and Ethernet switches, especially in China, where the cable is very developed. For wireless broadband access products to intervene in the broadband data market, the cost is relatively high. With the further development of wireless broadband access technology, the core chip manufacturers will be further promoted, and the high integration and optimization of technical solutions will greatly reduce the cost, wireless Broadband Access products will be in a more favorable position in the competition.

2. Frequency Problems

For wireless systems, the most important thing is the frequency problem. The allocation of frequency resources directly determines the capacity and scale of the wireless system. The capacity and scale that the system can achieve directly determine the carrier's investment strength and business direction. Currently, the frequency of licenses for broadband wireless networks is mainly 2.5G (in the United States) and 3.5G (in addition to the United States). The frequency of Non-licenses is 5.8G, the potential frequency also includes 3.3 GB. According to the current frequency distribution methods in various countries, each operator obtains a large distance from the large-scale cellular network. Generally, 6 ~ Only eight or so frequency points can achieve large-scale networking, and the current distribution method is a maximum of four frequency points, so wireless broadband access products must become the mainstream last mile access method, we also need to seek breakthroughs in the way frequency resources are allocated.

3. integration with existing networks

As a new access method, wireless broadband access products also need to solve an important problem: how to integrate with existing networks. Currently, wireless broadband access products are mainly used for access and transmission. 802.16-2004 is only a matter of specifying air interfaces, there is no unified consideration for business, user authentication, billing, and other standards. In this case, how to use the existing core network to achieve user authentication management and unified Billing Platform is a key issue for wireless broadband access products as a new last mile solution.

4. Indoor Coverage Problems

As a wireless system, if only outdoor coverage is achieved, it will bring about extremely high installation costs, including direct material and installation costs, and other costs, for example, rental fees for properties and installation locations may account for 20%-50% of equipment costs. In addition, the installation method of the room exterior greatly limits the range of potential users and limits the development of carrier customers.

5. Seamless Roaming Between Networks

The IEEE 802 Handoff research team is dedicated to solving the roaming problem between heterogeneous 802 networks. The key is the implementation of the switching process, that is, switching a mobile device from one base station to another, switching from one 802 network to another 802 network (for example, from 802.11b to 802.16 ), you can even switch from a wired network to a 802.11 or 802.16 connection. The goal of the working group is to standardize the switching process so that devices can achieve interoperability when roaming between different types of networks.

Currently, 802.11 of users can move around the hotspot and keep the connection, but if they leave the hotspot connection, they will be disconnected. With 802.16e, users will be able to maintain "optimal connection ". Use 802.11 connections in the hotspot. You can connect to 802.16 when you exit the hotspot but are still in the WiMAX service area. In addition, the establishment of standards also opens the door for batch component suppliers, which enables device vendors to focus on system design rather than developing the entire end-to-end solution.

When the 802.16e capability is successfully embedded into a PDA or laptop (or added through the 802.16e Support card), you can always connect to the entire man.
