2.3Annotation

Labeling properly makes the map easier to understand and more useful. ArcGIS provides a standard tagging engine and a maplex tagging engine. The standard tagging engine provides standard tagging settings, including the tagging style, visible proportion, grouping settings, and script settings. Maplex is the advanced tagging engine of ArcGIS. It provides a series of tools to improve the quality of map tagging, such as controlling the label size and position, optimizing the label placement location, developing the importance levels of different element layer labels, implementing authorization, controlling text spacing, deleting duplicate or duplicate labels, etc.

There are some tips for using annotation. When the background of a map is complex, it is not conducive to displaying the text marked by a specific color. if you add a solid color background to the annotation, this negative effect can be avoided. In the annotation symbol Editor, mask the annotation and set the appropriate halo value to implement the text border effect, as shown in

The label group display can display the labels that meet the setting conditions at different scales. It is generally used to display the labels of high-density elements, by setting the level of the element attribute, more and more labels on the same layer are displayed at a step-by-step scale to avoid a large number of labels. For example, the labeling information of different abundance is displayed under different scales by setting the classification.

In some cases,The standard tagging engine of ArcGIS cannot meet specific requirements. Therefore, maplex advanced map tagging engine must be used. Under the standard annotation engine, each element can only display one annotation. If a surface element is too large or the line element is too long, only one annotation is added to the graph, which is not conducive to the reading of the map user. Of course, splitting data can also achieve the effect of multiple tags, but this is undoubtedly a very dangerous operation to destroy the data. In this case, the maplex engine can easily solve the problem. For example, the nankun line is only a line when it is digitalized and is not separated. The general tagging engine only has one Annotation on the drawing. After maplex settings are used, mark them with a certain margin. The settings are as follows:

To increase the font spacing, you can also select the "Expand character" option on the upper and lower sides and set the font spacing in the "Limit" window.

In contrast to repeated labeling, some data has multiple tags in the same region due to too many elements of the same name. This phenomenon usually occurs in road, river or pipeline data, which often needs to be established and interrupted at the intersection. As shown in, multiple duplicate labels appear in the center, seriously affecting the beauty of the map.

Maplex can be used to delete duplicate tags without changing data. In the conflict solution, set "Remove annotation of the same name.

Marking and pressing important features cannot be tolerated in drawing. For example, some customer information labels are used to compress the road. Such compress are not allowed.

For this type of CAP conflict,Maplex provides a good solution. In the maplex system, each layer has a weight, which ranges from 0 ~ 999. The greater the value, the higher the weight. Elements with a low weight are marked back as elements with a high weight of "avoidance. Therefore, by setting the weight values of each layer, you can achieve the "avoidance" effect. To set the weight of the customer layer to 1 and the weight of the road layer to 99 (as long as the weight of the marked layer is greater than the weight of the marked layer), as shown in:

For Chinese customers, there are higher requirements for map tagging, and the layout along Chinese square blocks may be blurred.CJK's solution also fails to better solve the problem. In fact, the expression of the Chinese font in the computer may be blurred if it is skewed. As shown in:

To handle this situation,ESRI China has developed a specialized text plug-in to enable the annotation to display the character headers up. In fact, font skew is not allowed when the font is facing up, so as to keep the forward of the font and display the font clearly. As shown in:

ArcGISThe annotation function of is very powerful. As long as you understand the principle and set appropriate parameters, you can configure a beautiful map.
