ArcGIS Representation Representation Combat 4-free representation

The editing features of representations have been described in the control points for representations in the previous section, and with the editing capabilities of representations, you can achieve some of the effects beyond the rules. But the previously used representation editing, is very simple editing, basically is a few auxiliary operations, then this chapter will bring you a very powerful way to edit the representation of the expression-free representation.
The freedom of representation, the name is more difficult to call (the special name of the representation is very awkward, which seems to be its characteristics). In the literal sense, representation is free. Yes, the representations described earlier are based on rules and geometric effects, and freeform representations are the limits of breaking these rules while continuing to use representations. So let's take a look at this magical effect, below this playground effect (described in the first chapter of the initial representation)
This complex effect, in fact, is a feature of an elliptical surface, which is a record in the data. This effect is not one or a few rules and geometric effects overlay can be turned out, it is more like with some drawing software to draw out. This is the charm of freeform representations, which can be very free to draw different effects within a single feature. Let's break down how to make this effect.
First load this feature in and convert it to a representation
Open the editor and representation tools, turn on edit mode, select features with the representation's selection tool, click the Representation drop-down, select freeform representations-"convert to freeform representations", and after the conversion you can edit the representations very carefully.
Continue to select this feature, in the "representation"-"free representation", you can see "Edit free representation", you can enter a more detailed interface.
To the "Edit freeform representation" interface, it looks familiar, but it's a picture editor. The upper-right corner is an editing tool for a series of classes, and when you select features, you can also see the representation rules and effects under the toolbar.
Under this interface, you can use both the free editing tool and the representation's rules and geometric effects tools. Cartography is a job that requires imagination, and when we see the elements of this ellipse, we should be able to relate to the real stadium. At least the first time you can think of drawing with abstract simple strokes. Therefore, cartography is also an embodiment of the comprehensive ability.
First of all, we break down the general outline of the course, there is a lap and lap of the seat, and need to know how much, just need to know that there are a lot, and it is a circle to know (the author almost every day see Tianhe Stadium, but never know how many seats, but does not affect our imagination). Drawing the seat along the edge of the playground is very simple, just use the edge to do some inner buffer line. Add several layers of line symbols, respectively, to do equidistant inner buffering.
By simply repeating the action, the contours of the field are basically out. Adding a white border to a football field in the middle of a sports field is even more obvious. Use the Create tool (the tool under the A word) to quickly draw a rectangular polygon. Of course, the drawing is a polygon with a fill.
The filled faces are drawn to be resized and positioned. After adjusting it, place it in the middle of the playground. Here we do not need a polygon fill, the value needs its edge is sufficient, you can count into a line symbol layer, and then delete its polygon symbol layer.
The line between the midfield line and the goal position on both sides can also be drawn with the pen tool and the Circle tool. These all need a certain basis of drawing.
After the basic contour, it is the refinement of the part of cartography. It is more fastidious than excellence. In order to enhance the visual effect, you can hand-draw some radiation, so that the stadium seats become spaced, drawing some different colors to join the stadium, the seats in the front row of seats, look more prominent; These are not operational problems, but the problem of imagination.
Of course, to let the playground overall there is a view of the effect, the author deliberately for the entire oval surface, add two polygon symbol layer, respectively up and down to move some positions, give some gray color, looks more intense level sense.
Sometimes cartography is not a technical work, it still needs some artistic, need some craftsman spirit, also need more serious and persistent. After all the work is done, click on the "OK" button to save. The general recommendation is to complete a portion of the drawing to save, because this interface accidentally quit, the previous work is all lost, it will be very painful.
Again, this free-form representation is stored in the Override field, and each time it is drawn it reads the cluttered information from it and reloads it, which increases the overall display performance of the map, so do not use freeform representations at all.
Freestyle representations are generally used in iconic buildings and landforms, so combined with other rules, the display and performance can be balanced at the same time. It can be said that the freedom of representation is the finishing touch of the pen.
