1. Embedded Linux logo Display principle

Embedded Linux is directly based on the framebuffer. Direct display of an image in PPM format. It is completed in the Kernel/drivers/video/fbcon.c Fbcon_show_logo (), with a maximum color of 224 colors and an uncommon 255 color.

The default logo file is drivers/video/logo/logo_linux_clut224.ppm.

2. Production process

Because the Linux logo format requires PPM format to display. This format is a format used to describe image data in ASCII. In general, only a few software can recognize this format. So suppose you have a good logo image (jpg or PNG format, preferably the latter), then there are two ways to make the logo ppm format. First of all you have to ensure that your logo can not exceed the size of your screen size, the first time to make a small selection. Like the default logo only 80*80. Can be shown in various situations.

2.1 Using the NETPBM package for conversion

RHEL5 has installed these tools. It's got netpbm-10.35-6.fc6. Suppose you are PNG data, respectively, follow the steps below

2.2 Use Rhel's GIMP software to edit.

Rhel with GIMP. If not installed, you can choose from the CD below three package installation, personal recommended this mode, not too easy to fail.
