Back up and restore digital certificates on your computer

Recently, my computer is so slow that I want to build a system. But considering that there are many digital certificates in IE, I decided to back up the certificate first.

A digital certificate, also known as a CA certificate, is a long string of codes that contain information such as the name of the certificate applicant. A digital certificate is generally issued by a ca. It proves that the certificate subject and the public key contained in the certificate are the only ing relationship, so it is widely used on the network, next we will introduce how to back up and restore the digital certificate.

Back up digital certificates

First, enter "MMC" in the "run" dialog box to open the "console", and then click "File> Add/delete Management Unit" in the menu ", in the displayed dialog box, click "add.

Double-click "certificate" in the management unit list, select "My User Account" in the "Certificate Management Unit" window, and then click "finish" (1 ).

　　

Go back to the "Console Root Node". Below are all the certificates of the current user in the computer. In the right window, find the digital certificate to be backed up, right-click all tasks and choose Export (2 ).

　　

The "Certificate export wizard" will pop up, And we can follow the prompts to perform the operation. Here, select the encoding format to use, if you do not set it, you can select the default "Der-encoded binary ".

Finally, select the saved path and file name. The suffix of the saved Digital Certificate file is in the "CER" format.

Restore a digital certificate

There are many methods to restore a digital certificate. The following describes the three most common methods to restore a digital certificate.

1. Direct Recovery

Open the "console" window, add the "certificate" unit according to the above method, select the category folder to be imported on the left, and right-click in the window on the right, select "all tasks> Import" and then follow the "Certificate import wizard" to import the backed up digital certificate (3 ).

　　

2. Import in the IE Properties dialog box

If you import a digital certificate with a password, you can perform operations in IE. In the "Internet Options" dialog box, click "certificate" under the "content" tab, then, in the displayed "certificate" dialog box, click "import" to import the backup digital certificate.

3. Specify recovery proxy

Open "Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Local Security Policy", right-click "Public Key Policy> Encrypting File System", and select "all tasks> adding data recovery proxy ", use the "fault recovery agent wizard" to select the user that acts as the proxy or the user that has a fault recovery certificate. (4 ). After the digital certificate is backed up and restored, we don't have to worry about it after reinstalling the system.
