The Windows system's Internet Information Server (IIS) is a common Web and FTP site Erection tool, because of its simple operation, easy to use, widely used in the Internet. The application of IIS in the network is complex, and its default configuration parameters do not meet the needs of each site, so many users customize the IIS Web site configuration. But the IIS server also has a problem, it is likely to cause the loss of these parameters, but also to reset, is very troublesome. The easiest way is to usually pay attention to backing up the IIS site configuration parameters, and then restore or migrate if there is a problem. The following article describes several common ways to back up and restore IIS Web site configuration information.
using the IIS built-in tool
The author takes the Windows XP system IIS5.1 as an example, in the Internet Information Services Console window, right click on the local computer, select the "All Task à backup/restore Configuration" option in the pop-up menu, and click "Create Backup" in the "Configure Backup/Restore" dialog box button (Figure 1), in the Configure Backup dialog box, in the name of the backup, if you want to encrypt the backup file, select the "Encrypt Backup with password" option, then enter the encryption password, and then click "OK" to complete the backup operation. The restore operation is also simple, select the backup you want in the Configure Backup/Restore dialog box, and then click the "Restore" button.
The backup and restore features built into IIS can only be used on the local server, but the tool is powerless if you want to migrate IIS Web configuration information to other servers on your network.
method Two: Use the IIS Backup Wizard
Download the tool from Http://www.jb51.net/softs/11624.html, and after the installation runs, the IIS Backup Wizard will first detect all the sites that the IIS server contains, and then you can back up the site configuration information. In the main window, in the IIS Site list box, select the site you want to back up (Figure 2), such as the default Web site, then click the "Export Site" button, pop-up the "Export IIS Site" dialog box, in the "Select the file to save data" column to specify the save path and file name of the backup file, finally click the "OK" button, Complete a backup of the site configuration information. IIS Backup Wizard is to save the site configuration information in TXT file, to restore is very simple, click the main window of the "Import Site" button, and then in the Import dialog box to select your backup site configuration information file, click "OK" after the restore operation can be completed. In addition, the IIS Backup Wizard can complete the porting operation, copy the backup files to the server to be ported, and then use the Import Site feature to complete the migration operation.
However, the IIS Backup Wizard also has drawbacks, as the different Windows systems have their own versions of IIS servers, such as Windows2000 built-in Iis5.0,windows XP as IIS5.1, and windows 2003 is IIS6.0, the configuration information for these sites may be different, and different versions of the IIS Web site configuration information are ported to each other, potentially causing an error in the IIS server. Therefore, the IIS Backup Wizard can only use porting of configuration information between the same version of the IIS Web site.
method Three: IIS backup and restore Weapon ――iis Export Utility
IIS Export Utility (IISEU) has powerful backup and restore capabilities, and it can also migrate IIS site configuration information between different servers because it supports IIS4, IIS5, and IIS6, We can migrate different versions of IIS site configuration information, such as the migration of IIS site configuration information in Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows2003.
Backup Operations
From http://www.jb51.net/softs/11625.html load Iiseu, install and run. In the Iiseu main window (Figure 3), select the "An IIS Server" tab from the "Import from" box on the left, then enter the machine name or IP address of the IIS servers in the blank column below, such as localhost, and then select the version type of IIS. It supports IIS4, IIS5, and IIS6, then selects the type of site to back up in the type of site box, such as WWW, clicking the "Lists Sites" button, listing the site information for this IIS server in the list box, and selecting the site you want to back up. If you are using the IISEU official version, you can select multiple sites at a time.
Then switch to the "Database" tab in the right "Export to" box, and then select the version type of IIS that must be aligned on both sides. Finally, click the "Export" button, complete the site information backup, the site configuration information saved to the MDB database file.
restore Operation
Once the site is backed up with errors, the restore operation can take place. Switch to the Database tab in the Import from box, select the "WWW" option in the "Type of Site" box, click the "List Sites" button, and select the backup file you want in the "Available Sites" box. Then enter the native name in the Export Server box, select the Overwrite existing Webs option, and make sure that the same IIS version is selected on both sides, and then click Export to complete the restore of the IIS site.
porting Operations
If you want to migrate IIS Web sites on your network, it is convenient to use the Iiseu tool, which can support porting between different versions of IIS sites. In the Iiseu main window (Figure 5), the left and right sides of the box represent both local and remote IIS sites, switch to the An IIS Server tab, and then enter their own machine name or IP address in the blank columns on either side. Then select the Web site and other versions of IIS that you want to migrate in the left local IIS site box body, select the IIS version in the Remote IIS box on the right, check the Overwrite existing Webs option, and then click Export to complete the migration of the IIS site.
