1. VMware Workstation Virtualization Platform
VMware Workstation provides a fully virtualized platform. Virtual machines can be created and used with VMware workstation by turning on the virtualization capabilities of the processors in the host's BIOS. VMware Workstation actually just provides a simulated hardware platform. and provides the ability to install the operating system. This enables the installation of operating systems, including WINDOWS,LINUX,MAC, through VMware Workstation.
2. VMware Workstation provides network resources
Any computing platform, including computing, storage, network three parts, and in most cases, the three can be independent of each other and cooperate with each other.
VMware Workstation simulation of these computing resources naturally requires that these three types of resources be available for use by virtual machines.
VMware Workstation provides three types of virtual interaction networks for use with virtual machines created by them. These three types of virtual switching networks are:
- Bridging Network mode: Bridge
- Network Address Translation mode: NAT
- Host mode only: Host-only
The differences between the three types of virtual switching networks are:
Virtual machines that use bridged network mode, all network information for their NICs, are assigned from the router on the LAN where the host hosts reside. That is, the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS and other configuration, all from the router's allocation. At this point the status of virtual machine and host is equal, in a network segment. Able to communicate with each other.
A virtual machine that uses a network address to forward all network information for its NIC from the VMware Workstation daemon. This time the host passes the virtual network card and the virtual machine's
With host-only virtual machines, the network on which the NIC is located belongs to a separate network and is not capable of communicating with other networks.
In VMware workstation, the three types of virtual switches are edited through the menu bar's edit and virtual network editor
