Batch renaming tips

Renaming a file in any version of Windows is not complicated, except that you can select the file, press F2 to change the selected filename, and there are many ways to rename it. But how do you change the file names of a set of files so that they can be consistent and appear in the file name order?

Usually, we have to do the following for all kinds of photos. For example, you took a lot of digital photos while vacationing in Corsica, and your camera automatically named them dscn0595.jpg, Dscn0596.jpg, and so on. You want to be able to change them to a more recognizable, well remembered name. You can, of course, change them in one place for example, "Julie and I are in front of the lighthouse. jpg", "once again at the bar party. jpg" and so on. But if these photos are not a few, this will undoubtedly cost a lot of valuable time. A relatively good compromise is to name these photos "Corsica 2006-1.jpt", "Corsica 2006-2.jpt" and so on.

If you're using a Windows XP system, it's easy to do this job. First of all, put the file of your class in the same folder, you can select all (Ctrl + a), or only the file you want to rename. Right-click the first file and choose Rename. This way all other files are only selected except for the first file, which appears as a named box. Change the file name to "Corsica 2006.jpg" (Figure 1), or type "Corsica 2006". Wait a few seconds, and soon you will see that all selected files will be renamed Corsica 2006 (1), Corsica 2006 (2), etc. (Figure 2).

There are a few other things to note here. First "Cancel Rename" can only cancel one file at a time, and it can only be used on the last 10 files named. So if you want to rename more than 10 files, you'd better make a backup of the photos in a different directory before renaming. The order in which the files are named is based on the order in which the files are displayed on the screen, that is, if the files in the browser are sorted by date, then after renaming, the first file will be the most recent file in the day. Alternatively, when you right-click on the menu instead of clicking on the first file, it's in the middle of a file, then renaming starts with the file, sequentially to the last file, and then from the first file.

Note that you must specify an extension for the first file, but for other files, renaming commands does not affect their original extensions. So if your files are mixed with different types, renaming only modifies the file name section to keep it consistent, and the extension doesn't change. If you feel that the first file name is not very abrupt after the number, it can also be named "Corsica 2006 (0). jpg". You can specify the starting number in parentheses, and the following renaming process will automatically be sorted from the beginning of the number.

This software works on Windows 95 to XP operating systems, it also contains a number of very useful options, such as starting with 0, keeping the case, the name of the author, and the operation of some subfolders, as well as some of the more personalized options, such as shortening the long file name and changing the time to the movie The time representation of Star Trek and so forth; It also provides some powerful features, such as modifying the extension of a set of files at the same time.

One of the best features of the software is the ability to preview the changes before fixing them. And it is completely free, although the author hopes that the person who uses it can send him an e-mail.

"Turn on" to "search" in the last year, we often hear users complain that under XP, this should double-click to open the folder but inexplicably transferred to the search interface. Although this can be done by modifying the default open mode in file type under Folder Options, but the system does not provide a direct way for users to do so, and many users have not made such a change, the problem is still repeated, that the problem is not as simple as imagined.

Although the cause of the problem is not well judged, the solution is not difficult. First of all, for the sake of insurance, we recommend that you establish a system recovery point first, and then open Registry Editor ("Start" "Run", enter "Regedit"), enter Hkey_classes_rootdriveshell. Double-click Default to modify the key value of None. The problem is solved by closing the registry modifier.

File association

No doubt, you know. Starting with Windows 95, the Windows family can view file associations by clicking Tools Folder Options file types in the browser. (More specifically, the order of the settings under Windows 98 is "view" Folder Options, under Windows 95, "view" options.) )

Although this approach can provide a variety of information and you can change file associations through it, it lacks some basic functionality, such as providing a list of file associations that can be printed. For Windows 2000 and Windows XP users, the system provides them with a command to do this: Enter assoc at the command prompt. If the command is entered without additional parameters, the screen will quickly give the file association table-from. $$$ (AutoCAD backup file) to. zip (Zip compressed file). If you want the system to provide a break after each page is displayed, you need to add "more" after the command (that is, type assoc more). The more useful part of this command is that it can provide a complete list of associations. It's an interesting little task to leave a message for me. Suppose all members of the club are using a computer with Windows XP installed, and everyone is logged in or out of their account at different times. They want to leave a message to the next computer user so they can see it when they log in. But because the computer is not networked, they cannot use e-mail to exchange information. And they want the method to be as simple as possible, preferably without the help of third party software. Of course, users with system administrator privileges can leave message: Task Manager, user, select the user to send, click Send Message. However, this method has great limitations, first of all, the system must turn on the Fast user conversion function, while the recipient has to log in. The members of this club did not turn on the Fast user conversion and want the average user to be able to send the message, so the above method does not work.

The easiest way to do this is to attach a Notepad file to the desktop, but we have a more technical and less cumbersome approach.
