Vector graphics
is to use a series of computer instructions to describe and record the content of a picture, that is, through the instructions to describe all the lines, curves, circles, arcs, rectangles and other elements of the position, dimension and shape, but also in a more complex form to represent the image of the surface, lighting and material effects.
Vector Graph method is essentially a mathematical method (algorithm and feature) to describe a graphic image, in the processing of graphic images in accordance with the mathematical expression of the corresponding elements of the editing and processing.
when a graphic image is displayed on the screen, the instructions are interpreted first, and then the instructions that describe the graphic image are converted to the shapes and colors displayed on the screen. the software for editing vectors is often referred to as drawing software, such as AutoCAD software, which is suitable for drawing mechanical drawings and schematics. This software can produce and manipulate the various components of the vector graph, and transform the vector graphics, such as moving, zooming, stacking, rotating and twisting. When you edit a graphic, you turn the instruction into the shape and color that is displayed on the screen, and you can often see the drawing process. Since all the vector graphics can be described mathematically, the computer can be arbitrarily enlarged, reduced, rotated, deformed, distorted, moved and superimposed, without destroying the image.
However, when you use vector graphics to represent complex images (such as people, landscape photos) and are very demanding, you will need to spend a lot of time transforming, coloring, and processing lighting effects.
As a result, vector graphics are mainly used to represent wireframe drawings, engineering drawings, and calligraphy instruction.
Bitmap Images
Refers to a graph that is depicted in pixel points.
Images are generally used in cameras or scanners and other input devices to capture the actual scene picture, discretized into space, brightness, color (grayscale) sequence value, that is, a color map or grayscale image into a lot of pixels (points), each pixel with a number of bits to specify the color, brightness and properties of the pixel. Bitmap images are made up of a set of bits in computer memory that define the color and brightness of each pixel in the image.
Image suitable for the performance of more delicate, more layers, rich color, contains a lot of details of the image, and can be directly and quickly displayed on the screen.
However, the storage space is large and data compression is generally required.
Bitmaps occupy a larger space than vectors, and processing focuses on getting and copying, which is faster to display.
