BIOS basic input/output system. BIOS password also known as "CMOS password", the main purpose of password settings are:

1, prevent others to modify the BIOS settings at will to ensure the normal operation of the computer.

Two, the password sets the method

Although there are multiple BIOS versions, the password setting method is basically the same. The award 4.51 PG version (pictured below) is now used as an example. During computer startup, when prompted at the bottom of the screen: Press Del to enter SETUP, hold down the DEL key to enter.

When you turn on the system, press Del to enter setup when the screen appears, and the items associated with the password setting are:

BIOS FEATURES Setup (BIOS feature Setup)

"Supervisor PASSWORD" (admin password)

"User PASSWORD" (Users password)

Select one of these items and enter the setting for the item. Select Admin or user password item return, request to enter password, input and then enter, prompt check password, enter same password again, return to. It is important to note that after any settings are made, you must save before exiting to allow the settings to take effect. (The Save method is: "Save & Exit Setup" or press F10 when you are set up, and you are prompted "save to CMOS and exit (y/n)?" Press "Y" at this point, save complete. )

Specific settings are divided into the following ways:

Set Method 1: Either set "Supervisor PASSWORD" or "USER PASSWORD" individually, and then open "BIOS FEATURES Setup" to set the "Security Option" to "Setup" to save the exit. In this way, when you press the DEL key to enter the BIOS setup screen when the boot will require a password, but enter the operating system does not require a password.

Set Method 2: Either set "Supervisor PASSWORD" or "USER PASSWORD" individually, and then turn on "BIOS FEATURES Setup" to set the "Security Option" to "System". Save exit. In this way, the password is required not only to enter the BIOS setup, but also to enter the operating system.

Set Method 3: Set the "Supervisor PASSWORD" and "USER PASSWORD" separately, and use two different passwords. Then open BIOS FEATURES Setup to set the "Security Option" to "System" and exit the save. In this way, entering the BIOS setup and entering the operating system requires a password, and any of the passwords entered into the BIOS setup and operating system. However, there is a difference between the administrator password and the user password: When you enter the BIOS program with the administrator password, you can make any settings, including modifying the user's password. However, in the "User password" entry, in addition to modify or remove "User password", can not make any other settings, not to modify the administrator password. This shows that, in this setting state, the "User password" permission is lower than the "Administrator password" permission.

Third, the password practical

There are only two passwords, but the benefits are great if they can be used rationally and skillfully.

1, the public computer: such as school room, office and so on. Generally use "Set Method 1", the password is not public, at this time allow others to enter the operating system to use the computer, but do not allow others to enter the BIOS screen arbitrarily modify the BIOS settings to protect the normal operation of the computer.

2, personal computer, if you do not want to let anyone else use: "Set Method 2", the password is not public, the other people can not enter the BIOS settings, and can not enter the operating system.

3, personal computer, but allow a specified number of people to use: "Set Method 3"?? Set two passwords separately and notify the specified users of the user password by keeping the administrator password. If you want to disqualify others in the future, you can enter the BIOS to cancel or modify the original "User password". But others can not modify the "Administrator password", so that the initiative is still in their own hands.

Four, the password removal and the crack

Passwords are protective, but they can cause trouble if they forget their passwords. Therefore, in addition to the password will be set, but also learn to remove and crack the password.

1, the removal of the password:

The "removal" of a password means that the password is removed if the password is already known.

The method is: into the BIOS setup screen, select the password has been set "supervisor PASSWORD" or "USER PASSWORD", enter the "Enter PASSWORD", do not enter the password, press ENTER directly. The screen appears prompt:

"PASSWORD DISABLED!!! (Remove password!!!)

Press any key to continue ... (Press any key to continue ...) "

Press any key to exit save, the password will be removed.

2, the password to crack:

Password "Cracked" refers to the forgotten password, can not enter the BIOS settings or access to the operating system to crack the password. The method is as follows:

(1) Procedure crack method:

This method is available for access to the operating system but does not enter the BIOS setup (requires a password). To do this: switch the computer to DOS, and then enter the following cracking program after the prompt "c:windows>":

Then use the Exit command to exit DOS, the password is cracked. Because the BIOS version is different, and sometimes this program can not be cracked, you can use another similar program to crack:

Exit DOS with the exit command, reboot and hold down the DEL key to enter the BIOS, you will find no password to block your way!

(2) Discharge method:

When "BIOS setup" and "operating system" can not be entered, you can not switch to the DOS mode to use the program to crack the password. At this time, only the use of discharge method. There are two kinds of discharge methods: one is "jumper discharge method"?? Open the Host box, on the motherboard to find a COMs-related jumper (refer to the motherboard manual), this jumper is usually inserted in 1-2 of the pins, as long as it is inserted in 2-3 of the pin, and then put back 1-2 pins to clear the password. The other is "COMs battery discharge method"?? Open the mainframe box, on the motherboard to find a button-type battery, called CMOS battery (for the bios of the individual power supply, to ensure that the BIOS settings are not due to computer power loss), remove the COMs battery, wait 5 minutes to put back the battery, the password can be lifted. However, the BIOS password no matter how set, with a universal password can enter the BIOS setup and operating system. Of course, the password you set yourself can also be used. Other settings in the BIOS will revert to their original state, which requires a reset to optimize computer performance or resolve hardware conflicts.

(3) Universal password:

The production of some early motherboards, manufacturers have a universal password (refer to the motherboard manual), such as: 6 "*" as a universal password. This motherboard, BIOS password no matter how set, with a universal password can enter the BIOS setup and operating system. Of course, the password you set yourself can also be used.
