The number of connections in the router is the number of concurrent connections, which is the number of point-to-point connections that the router can handle at the same time. So, what is the concept of a connection number? What effect does it have on the user's daily use?

To understand the number of connections, you first need to understand the concept of "session". This "session" is not our usual conversation, but can use the usual conversation to understand, two people in the conversation, you a sentence, I, a question, we call it a dialogue, or a conversation. Similarly, every time we work with a computer, we can call it a "session" for the entire process of data exchange. Speaking of which, some people may say: This is the operation on the computer, and what is the relationship with the router? This is not the case, we use the purpose of the router is to share the Internet, the computer said to the words are required to forward the router to go out, the other side of the computer will need to forward the router back, then, if it is more than one computer, how the router know which sentence is who said? For example: Zhang San, John Doe, Harry speak, you know which words are Zhang San said, which is John Doe said, that is because you remember what they said. The router should also keep in mind if it is to be distinguished. Inside the router maintains a table of connections, is used to store the connection number information, dynamic consumption of some memory, CPU. The size of this table is fixed, and if at some point the table is filled up, then there is no way for the router to forward the data. It can be said: "The number of connections to the router is capped, if some of the computers used up the number of connections, then the rest of the computer will not be able to access the Internet."

The following is a legend to illustrate the number of connection problems, the test results on the 2M ADSL line:

(1) When opening the www.sina.com.cn, the number of connections can reach 80 or so, the number of connections to maintain a short time, within a minute can be aging disappear. Therefore, do not worry about this will affect the speed. So why do you have so many connections? This is mainly like Sina these portals, there are many servers, and the page page has a lot of pictures, animations, etc., and the Web browser need to first download these elements to the local computer temporary folder, so that it will result in a flash of so many connections. 1 is shown below:

(2) Turn on the Thunder download, occupy the number of connections is not many; When downloading popular movies, games, the number of connections will be stable around 80; The 80 connections will persist until the Thunder download is complete. (3) Open Bt (using BitComet) download, will occupy a large number of connections. During the initialization phase of the download, the number of connections may be more than 2000, waiting for a stable download, the number of connections will drop; These entries persist until the download is complete. As shown in 3, is the number of connections initiated at the time of the speed. Here's a point: there is no definite connection between the number of connections and the speed size. The speed is large, the number of connections is not necessarily many, in turn, the number of connections, the speed is not necessarily large. The same principle is true of other peer-to software.

With a few simple examples to illustrate what is the number of connections, what is the benefit of setting this feature on the router? There are two purposes:

1, can prevent peer-to-peer software over-consumption of connection resources caused by slow and drop the problem, but also indirectly avoid the peer-to software to take up too much bandwidth (if you want to effectively allocate network bandwidth, use IP QoS function);

2, you can avoid some attacks and even the virus initiated a large number of connections to occupy the router resources or bandwidth caused by the drop line problem.

Therefore, in a complex network environment, we recommend that you enable the connection limit, and that the maximum number of connections is set to 200 or 300. How do I set it up? Login to our router management interface, in the left side of the menu, you can see the "Number of connections limit", the number of connections to set and view.

In the number of connections limit, click Add new entry to limit the number of connections to the computer.

In the "LAN IP Address" field, fill in the IP address, can be an IP address segment, or an IP address, and then fill in the maximum number of connections, save.

After the entry has been added successfully, you can see that the maximum number of connections has been limited to 200 for 192.168.1.100 computers and that the entry is in the enabled state. If the item is edited and deleted, click on the corresponding button to do the corresponding action.
