Presto: a browser typographical engine developed by Opera Software for use by Opera 7.0 and later versions up to 10.60 ). Presto replaces the Elektra typographical engine used in earlier versions of Opera 4 to 6, including adding dynamic features, such as web pages or some of them that can be retyped with DOM and Script syntax events. Since its launch, Presto has continuously updated versions, so that many errors can be corrected and Javascript reading performance can be optimized.

Presto is characterized by optimized rendering speed. It is currently recognized as the fastest browser kernel for Web browsing, but the cost is to sacrifice the compatibility of web pages.

Presto is actually a dynamic kernel. The biggest difference from Trident, Gecko, and other kernels lies in script processing. Presto has a natural advantage, all or part of the page can be re-parsed in response to a script event. In addition, this kernel has the fastest speed to execute JavaScript. According to tests under the same conditions, the Presto kernel only takes about 1/3 of the time to execute the same JavaScript As Trident and Gecko kernels. However, the disadvantage is that Presto is a commercial engine. In addition to Opera, Presto only has NDS Browser and Nokia 770 web Browser, which greatly limits the development of Presto. The Opera Widget engine uses the Presto engine.
