Cisco 6509 chassis back red light analysis report

Preface: Today to collate information, found a few years ago I encountered a patrol fault, so take out to do record, to avoid data loss. first, warning phenomenon:

1: 6509 main engine SYSTEM light Red

2: 6509 chassis back line integrated Board light Red

Second, the device hardware indicator level analysis:

Cisco official for the main engine,the system lights up Several cases of the description:

Green-all Chassis environmental monitors is reporting OK.

Orange-the power supply has failed or the power supply fan hasfailed.

Red-incompatible power Supplies is installed. (power supply Exception)

– The redundant clock has failed. (redundant clock exceptions)

– One VTT1 module has failed or the VTT module temperature minorthreshold have been exceeded2. (Piece VTT Module exception, or VTT module temperature abnormality)

– VTT modules fail or the VTT module temperature major Thresholdhas been exceeded3. (Two pieces VTT module exception, or temperature abnormality)

– The temperature of the Supervisor engine major threshold has beenexceeded(engine temperature anomaly)

Three, equipment system alarm Level analysis:

6509 has the following alarms:

Environmental alarms:

System minor alarm on operating VTT count (raised 18w1d ago)

System minor alarm on VTT 2 OK (raised18w1d ago)

Four, equipment system level analysis:

View 6509 hardware status with the following status description:

VTT 2:

VTT 2 Ok:not OK

VTT 2 outlettemperature:29c  

Description VTT2 module System detection status is not normal

VTT: Voltage terminal module, for Catalyst switching bus. If the redundant Supervisor engine is not installed and the VTT module is in a low or severe temperature condition, the system shuts down. There are three voltage regulators (VTT) on the back panel. If a VTT module fails, a slight alarm will occur. If two faults occur, a major alarm will occur, and the correct action is to shut down the system

V. Conclusion:

the 6509 chassis backplane,VTT2 voltage terminal module anomalies, and now the system still has 2 blocks VTT Module normal operation, if a piece of VTT Voltage Terminal module Abnormal, will make the system serious alarm, if the situation is serious can cause the whole station 6509 stop working.

a 6509 can withstand only 2 blocks of VTT module exceptions.
