Yes, this is comparable to the optical fiber transmission speed. Recently, with the efforts of Japanese researchers, it has become a reality. It uses the ultra-short wave + multi-channel technology to achieve Gbps ultra-high-speed wireless transmission, it takes only 1 second to download a movie!

 

Wi-Fi transmission speed up to 100 Gbps

Sponsored by Panasonic, the team was developed at the University of Hiroshima and the National Institute of Information and Communication Technology, using multi-channel technology and the taihz (THz) band (with a wavelength of no more than 1mm) provides Gbps ultra-high-speed wireless transmission. However, the THz frequency is not yet available for commercial use, and it is expected that it will not be available until 2019.

Knowledge: The THz wave contains an electromagnetic wave with a frequency of 0.1 to 10 THz. This term is applicable to the frequency between the high-frequency Edge (300 GHz) of millimeter wave band from electromagnetic radiation and the Far-infrared band edge (3000 GHz) of low frequency, the corresponding wavelength of radiation in this band ranges from 03mm to 3mm (or 100 μm ).

Now, Gigabit wired broadband has begun to expand globally, but users are not enthusiastic. The main reason is that there is no wireless router with it, even the most powerful 11ac Wave2 wireless router (the highest theoretical transmission rate in a single band is 2167 Mbps), the speed is usually only 10% in actual use (with a common mobile terminal ). The emergence of 100 Gbps WiFi will not only accelerate the popularization of gigabit wired broadband, but also promote the development of Gbps wired broadband.

Professor Minoru Fujishima from the University of Hiroshima said that we are still discussing Mbps or Gbps today, but soon we will focus on Gbps, which is based on the THz wireless technology, in the past, this speed was "imprisoned" in fiber optics, and now we have achieved this speed through wireless!

Of course, the challenge brought by the THz technology is that the wavelength is too short, which makes it almost unable to "pass" the object. You must know that the 11ad product based on the 60 GHz band has almost no wall-crossing capability. Therefore, do not have any expectations for the 100 Gbps WiFi product based on the GHz band or above.

In fact, in addition to the 100 Gbps WiFi based on the THz technology, the Visible Light Communication (VLC) is equally promising, the current transmission rate of Li-Fi has reached 224 Gbps.

However, from the perspective of reality, whether it is a 100 Gbps Wi-Fi based on the THz technology or Li-Fi, there is still a long way to go before the real commercial launch, therefore, WiFi technology and products based on the GHz and 5 GHz frequencies are still the most suitable options!
