This tutorial describes how to start and configure Cisco Catalyst 1900 series switches.
1. Tutorial Purpose
Through this experiment, you can master the following skills:
Familiar with switch startup interface;
Configure the vswitch;
Understand the port number of the vswitch.
2. device requirements
This experiment requires the following devices:
One Cisco Catalyst 1900 Series Switch with unlimited models and Enterprise Edition Software. the 1912 switch is used in this experiment;
One PC and Windows operating system. A Super Terminal program is installed;
One Console cable and corresponding Interface Converter.
3. cable connection and configuration instructions
As shown in Figure 3.1, the PC is connected to the Console port of the switch through the serial port.
The default settings of the Console port of a Cisco switch are as follows:
Port Speed: 9600bit/s
Data bit: 8
Parity: None
Stop bit: 1
Traffic control: None
After setting the serial port attribute in the PC Super Terminal Program to be consistent with the preceding parameter, you can start the experiment.
4. Experiment configuration and monitoring results
When the PC starts normally, the PC connects to the switch using the Console cable and enters the Super Terminal Program. Intercommunication
Change the power supply.
Because the switch does not have a power switch, you can directly plug in the power plug when you turn on the power.
Monitoring List 3.1 records the entire process of starting a Catalyst 1912 switch.

... (Same as the configuration list in section 2nd, Which is omitted here)
(1) Section 1st is the display content after 1912 switch power-on, listing the copyright information, software version information (Enterprise Edition), ethernet address (00.04, DD-4E-9C.80) and a variety of serial numbers.
After the preceding information, the "1 user (s) now active on Management Console" information indicates that one user is using the Console, which is a HyperTerminal program.
Finally, the user interface menu is listed. Four options are available: menu (M), command line (K), and IP configuration.
(1) and console password (P ). Among the four items, the CCNA test mainly examines the command line method.
(2) Select the command line method in section 2nd to enter the USER command mode. Enter a question mark and you can see the available commands in this mode "they are all very simple commands.
(3) type the enable command to enter the privileged execution mode.
(4) type the conft command to enter the configuration mode. The question mark shows all the commands that can be issued in global configuration mode. We can see that there are many commands. We are concerned with frequently used commands that may appear in the CCNA exam.
(5) run the hostname SW1912 command to name the switch SW1912. The command takes effect immediately. You can see that the prompt has changed to "SW1912 (config )#".
(6) enable password is classified into 15 levels from 1 to 15, where Level 1 is the lowest level and level 15 is the highest level. That is, the privileged command level.
The enable passwords pass1 and pass15 of level 1 and level 15 are set in the experiment.
(7) enable secret (enable password) can also be set in the 1912 Switch configuration ). The difference between the Enable password and the Enable password is that the Enable password is clearly displayed in the configuration list, and the Enable password is displayed in the configuration list.
After the Enable password is set on the vswitch, the Enable Password of level 15 will no longer take effect and will enter the privileged command mode. Enter the Enable password.
(8) The ip address command sets the ip address of the current switch to 192.168.1.1, which is the ip address used for switch management.
(9) The ip default-gateway command sets the default gateway of the current switch. It should be noted that this gateway is set for the switch itself and has nothing to do with other network devices it connects. In other words, the vswitch is connected to all PCs. All servers and other devices should set gateways in their operating systems. The Gateway settings on the vswitch are only valid for themselves.
(1O) The ipdomain-name command sets the Domain name of the domain where the switch is located, and the domain name set in the experiment is cisco.com.
(11) The ipname-server command is used to set the Domain Name server address used by the switch. This address is also used by the switch itself, all hosts connected to the vswitch should also set their own domain name server address.
(12) The show version command lists the vswitch version, memory, port, and other information. In this example, the main information includes:
Software Version: Cisco Catalyst 100/2820 Enterprise Edition;
Version: V9.00.05;
Boot time: 0 days, 0 hours, 12 minutes, 44 seconds;
Processor: Catalyst 1900 (486sxl );
Memory: 2048KB/1024KB, 3 MB in total;
Port information: 15 fixed Ethernet ports;
Basic ethernet address: 002.164.dd.4e.9c.80.
(13) The show ip command lists the ip protocol configurations of the vswitch. You can see whether the preceding commands have taken effect.
(14) The show running. con command lists the configurations of A vswitch. It is the most commonly used command for configuration check.
In addition to the project you just set, the list also displays the port information. The interface Ethernet is the 1OM Ethernet port, and the interface FastEthernet is the 1OOM Fast Ethernet port.
0 in No. O/n is the module number. The 1912 switch has only one module and its number is 0.
The values of m in O/n are 1-22, 25, 26, and 27. 1-12 is the 10 M Ethernet port number; 25 is the AUI
Ports (26 and 27 above the rear panel of the chassis are the numbers of M Ethernet ports, that is, the two ports labeled A and B on the front panel.
From the configuration list, we can see that no configuration is made for all interfaces. They use the default configuration.
The show interface command can list the specific configurations and statistical information of interfaces (ports. The list lists information about the EO/l port, which is 0 in the statistics of received and sent data frames, because this port is not connected to any device.
(15) When section 3rd starts, use the reload command to restart the switch. The prompt line indicates that the configuration parameters and static MAC address will be retained. The dynamic MAC address is cleared.
(16) after the switch is restarted, the switch startup interface changes. In the user interface menu, there are only menu and command line options to choose from, because IP Parameters and passwords have been set.
(17) after entering the privileged mode, the configuration list listed by the show running-config command is exactly the same as that before the vswitch is restarted, indicating that the configuration has been fully saved to NVRAM.
