When using git mergetool to merge branches, there will always be a backup file with the extension of *.orig, each time to be manually deleted, it feels cumbersome, you can actually modify the git configuration, prohibit the generation of backup files.
Open the console (or terminal) to execute the following command:

git config--global mergetool.keepbackup false

or directly into the system user directory, modify the. gitconfig file to add the following:

[Mergetool]
    prompt = True
    Keepbackup = False
