Content type hub for SharePoint 2010

In SharePoint 2007, we can define or customize content types in a site set, and then use these content types in all sites within a site collection, and content types provide a way to centrally manage the types of data and information so that the structure of the information is defined and separated from the actual storage of the information. However, in version 2007, content types cannot be used across site collections. If we want all site collections to be able to use the same defined content type, they must be encapsulated as solution Package and deployed into individual Web applications.

SharePoint 2010 Adds the functionality of the content type hub to allow administrators to easily share the same set of content types throughout the farm scope. You can specify a site collection as the Hub center, publish its content type, and automatically synchronize the published content types to your content type library by subscribing to other site collections with content type publishing.

Content type hubs operate through the managed Metadata Service application, so you need to publish and subscribe to a site collection of content types that must be associated with the same managed Metadata service application. Each managed Metadata Service Application instance can only specify a site collection as the Content Type hub "center" by which to publish content types, while other site collections can only act as "subscribers" and "subscribe" to content types that are published. The following figure is a map of content type Publishing and subscriptions (from www.chakkaradeep.com).

In service Application management in the SharePoint 2010 Central Administration, select the managed Metadata service, and then click the Properties button in Ribbon:

At the bottom of the Properties dialog box, fill in the site collection path that you want to be the hub of the content type hub, and the content types that are defined in this site collection can be published:

Then select the managed Metadata Service Application agent again and click the "Properties" button in Ribbon:

Select the check boxes in front of the content type hub-related options:

Then, in the site collection that you designate as the hub for content type hub, you can select a content type from the site content type library, and then publish the content type by clicking the "Manage publication for this content type" link:

2 Content Type hub-related timer jobs are defined on a SharePoint 2010 server to automate publication and subscription synchronization for content types. They run automatically in the background for a specified period of time to complete the publishing and synchronization operations. We can find these two timer jobs in the "Monitor-timer job status" of the central Administration site, and then manually force immediate execution (a timer job can be started manually immediately, a new feature of SharePoint 2010).

First, locate the Content Type Hub timer job, and then click the Run Now button:
