Create a recoverable OSX installation DMG with Createinstallmedia

Get ready

Download OS X installer from App Store, download complete, find similar "install OS X 10.11 Developer Beta.app" in the application Directory "/application" (Chinese name: Install OS X 10. Xxxxxxxx.app)

Making

Assuming the download installation is "Install OS X 10.11 Developer Beta.app", here are the steps:

1. Create a folder on the desktop named: OS X 10.11 El Capitan Beta

2. Move the install OS X 10.11 Developer Beta.app in the application folder to this folder

3. Open Disk Utility, Menu: File-New image-Image from folder, select the folder you just created from the desktop, store the non-named OSX, location desktop, image format read/write, then create a suitable size DMG

4. Use Createinstallmedia to create the installation media into this DMG:

Open the desktop created OSX.DMG, the OS X 10.11 El Capitan Beta volume, enter in the terminal:

sudo ~/desktop/os\ x\ 10.11\ el\ capitan\ beta/install\ os\ x\ 10.11\ developer\ Beta.app/contents/resources/createin Stallmedia--volume/volumes/os\ x\ 10.11\ el\ capitan\ Beta--applicationpath ~/desktop/os\ X\ 10.11\ El\ Capitan\ Beta/I Nstall\ os\ x\ 10.11\ developer\ beta.app--nointeractionpassword:erasing disk:0% ... 10% ... 20% ... 30% ... 100% ... Copying installer files to disk ... Copy complete. Making Disk Bootable ... Copying boot files ... Copy complete. Done.

All of the file paths can be obtained by dragging them into the icon, without having to enter them manually.

5. Compress this DMG: Open Disk Utility, launch the DMG volume just created, menu: Mirror-Transform, select Desktop osx.dmg in the window that appears, save as: OS X 10.11 El Caption Beta, location desktop, image format compression, After the conversion succeeds, I get the desired OS X 10.11 El Caption beta.dmg. OSX.DMG and OS X 10.11 El Capitan beta folders can be removed.

6. Verify the recovery image for OS X 10.11 El Caption beta.dmg : Open Disk Utility, eject its volume: Install OS X 10.11 Developer Beta. Then menu: image-Scan the image to be recovered and select it. The operation was successful and the validation was completed.

Use

Use recovery dmg to make a USB recovery disk. Take a 8G USB flash drive as an example (whether it is a USB stick or a removable hard drive, it is recommended to restore the partition at least 8GB)

1. Insert the USB drive, open the Disk utility, select the USB stick (not the volume), click Erase, the data on the USB drive will be completely erased, and be re-created as GUID partition format, partition for Mac OS extension (journaled).

2. Select the volume of the USB flash drive, Menu: Edit-Restore, point image button, select the DMG we created earlier, then click Restore.

Recovery process is long, after completion, the U disk is an OSX installation disk.

3. Connect the USB drive, start (or restart) the computer, hold down the option key, the boot option will appear, the USB stick is recognized correctly, access can be used.
