First, download Ubuntu. I installed Ubuntu 13.04 at the official Ubuntu website. This document uses my actual operations as an example. Commands starting with "$" do not need to be entered.

In Ubuntu 13.04 ):

Software required: Startup Disk Creator (boot Disk Creator)

This is the built-in software of Ubuntu, which can be found on the interface shown in the figure below.

Insert a USB flash drive, preferably at least 2 GB space, which will be formatted. First, back up the data in the USB flash drive, open the boot disk creator, click another browsing image file iso, and then select the used USB flash drive, format the disk and click create boot disk. It's easy.

I used this tool to create a USB flash drive. Once it is completed, an error is reported at the end of Ubuntu 13.04. However, after the USB flash drive is created, the error occurs and the usage of the USB flash drive is not affected.

In Windows (Windows 8 ):

Required software: Download address from the official website of Universal USB Installer

There are a lot of software on the Windows platform, so it is essential to make a USB flash drive. The Universal USB Installer supports many Linux systems, such as Ubuntu and openSUSE. The operation is also very simple. First insert the USB flash disk, start the software, select the iso version, then select the USB flash disk, and then click create.

In OS x (OS X 10.8.3 ):

1. It is more difficult to create a USB flash drive on a Mac computer. You need to open Launchpad and other terminals. First, you need to convert iso to an img image file. OS X will automatically append the dmg extension name without any impact. Right-click the iso icon on the Mac and choose "show introduction" to view the complete path. Run the following command:

The code is as follows: Copy code

$ Hdiutil convert-format UDRW-o full path of the target file full path of the source file full path

In my iso mobile hard drive, there are spaces in the path name. The Command fails to be executed, and the message "hdiutil: convert: only a single input file can be specified" is displayed ", then I can move the iso file to the hard drive of my computer.

My execution results are as follows:

The code is as follows: Copy code

Zhang-hengde-MacBook-Air :~ Henry $ hdiutil convert-format UDRW-o/Users/henry/Downloads/ubuntu. img/Users/henry/Downloads/ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso
Reading Master Boot Record (MBR: 0 )...
Reading Ubuntu 12.04 LTS i386 (Apple_ISO: 1 )...
Reading (Windows_NTFS_Hidden: 2 )...
Elapsed time: 9.774 s
Speed: 71.7 Mbit/s
Save: 0.0%
Created:/Users/henry/Downloads/ubuntu. img. dmg

2. Insert a USB flash drive to view the USB drive letter. The numbers may vary depending on the system disk, but they are generally in diskN mode. Run the following command:

The code is as follows: Copy code

$ Diskutil list

My execution results are as follows:

The code is as follows: Copy code

Zhang-hengde-MacBook-Air :~ Henry $ diskutil list
0: GUID_partition_scheme * 121.3 GB disk0
1: EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1
2: Apple_HFS Macintosh HD 120.5 GB disk0s2
3: Apple_Boot Recovery HD 650.0 MB disk0s3
0: CD_partition_scheme * 36.1 MB disk1
1: Apple_partition_scheme 31.5 MB disk1s0
2: Apple_partition_map 32.3 KB disk1s0s1
3: Apple_HFS WD Unlocker 4.1 MB disk1s0s2
0: GUID_partition_scheme * 1.0 TB disk2
1: EFI 209.7 MB disk2s1
2: Apple_HFS Time Machine 333.4 GB disk2s2
3: Apple_HFS My MacBook 333.4 GB disk2s3
4: Microsoft Basic Data My Windows 332.9 GB disk2s4
0: FDisk_partition_scheme * 4.0 GB disk3
1: Windows_FAT_32 4.0 GB disk3s1

3. In the above result, the USB drive letter is/dev/disk3 and the command is executed to detach the USB disk. UnmountDisk only unmounts and can be directly remounted. Run the following command:

The code is as follows: Copy code

$ Diskutil unmountDisk/dev/disk3

4. Write the image to USB. It is best to pop up all other mobile disks. Make sure that the selected USB drive letter is correct. Otherwise, the information in the drive will be gone. Run the following command:

The code is as follows: Copy code

$ Sudo dd if =/Users/henry/Downloads/ubuntu. img. dmg of =/dev/rdisk3 bs = 1 m

Sudo indicates the root account. To execute this command, you need to enter the password. The password is not displayed during the input process. This is true for Linux kernel systems. Then, you will see that the USB flash drive is flashing and the file is being written. After the data is written, the system prompts "this computer cannot read the disk you inserted.

5. (if USB is manually released, skip this step.) the USB is displayed. The eject is used to remove the storage media from the drive. It is disconnected from the media in the drive and cannot be remounted. Run the following command:

The code is as follows: Copy code

$ Diskutil eject/dev/disk3

6. The blank file format is not recognized in Windows after the Mac is written into the file. To format a USB flash drive, you must format it on your Mac using a disk tool. If formatted on a Windows computer, the available space is only 700 MB.

Install Ubuntu on a Mac computer, press the option key when starting, and then select USB to start. When other computers start, press the on-screen prompt to enter the boot menu (usually esc or F12). Select a USB device from the boot menu. I have tested the enable USB flash drive made in these three methods and it is completely available.
