Experts warned that the newly discovered and uncorrected security defects in the three browser software make the Web more dangerous.
Last weekend, security researchers posted detailed information about new defects found in IE, Safari, and Firefox on the security email list.
Secunia said on its website that defects in Firefox and Safari will cause the browser to crash, while defects in IE can be used by hackers to control users' computers.
Secunia is rated as "high risk" for IE defects ". It indicates that IE has been confirmed to have this defect, and other versions may also be affected. This defect exists in IE's way of processing HTML tags. Hackers can exploit it by designing a malicious website.
Microsoft said in an email statement that Microsoft is investigating new defects and believes it is not as dangerous as Secunia claims. Microsoft said that our preliminary investigation showed that this defect may cause the browser to be accidentally closed or unresponsive.
Symantec said that IE defects could be used to run malicious code on defective PCs, but this was not proven.
Secunia believes that Firefox and Safari are "not critical ". By designing a malicious website, both defects will cause the browser to crash.
Safari 2.0.3 has been confirmed to have defects, and other versions may also be affected. Firefox 1.5.0.2 has a defect, and earlier versions are also affected by this defect.
Because these defects have not been corrected, Secunia recommends that you do not access untrusted websites to avoid attacks. ()
