Deploying the Lync Server SQL witness server

Recently, due to some needs, a set of highly available back-end SQL-based images has been deployed to Lync, and today we share a witness server deployment for back-end mirroring. First, we install the SQL Express version on the SQL witness server, the recommended version is the same as the SQL master server version, but the Express Edition is sufficient.

We need to set up a service account for the SQL Server service during the installation of SQL and need to specify a domain account.

Then add our pre-created SQL administrator to the list of SQL administrators.

After the installation is complete, we go back to Lync Server Topology Builder and edit the properties of the Enterprise Edition front end server pool.

In the associated location, check the SQL mirroring witness, and click New on the right.

Enter the FQDN of our SQL witness server, as well as the name of the matching instance, if it is by default you do not need to modify it and configure the port number (using the default).

When you are finished, you can see the witness server that we configured in the Edit Properties dialog box.

Then we need to specify the location of the file share path when we publish the topology.

Back to the Publish topology interface, we can click Next to make a topology release.

Lync SQL Database mirroring and witness server is still very interesting, the overall idea is very clear, is the SQL mirroring mode, but Lync Server can directly go to invoke the deployment, without the need to manually operate too much SQL things.
