I first entered the interactive design industry and found that the sense of design is the most important aspect for junior designers. In the past, I only received theoretical education in books or articles, but in practice I was experiencing the responsibilities and situations of Interaction designers. Here, I would like to share my thoughts with you and give you some advice.
Design thinking is the core competitiveness
Compared with visual designers and front-end developers, design thinking is the core competitiveness of Interaction designers. A really good interaction designer should be able to meet a demand in the most appropriate and effective way through his own thinking, rather than just a prototype painter.
In most cases, whether it is natural, concise, and easy to use can be used as the criteria for judging the interaction scheme. However, in the design practice, such criteria are often more general, and it is difficult to determine the importance of the proposed scheme. At this time, Interaction designers should rely on their own design thinking to determine, thus affecting the quality of the solution.
The formation of design thinking mainly comes from two ways: first, thinking and reflection in practice, and second, absorbing others' design thinking. That is, to analyze and summarize your own experience and others' experience, and establish a knowledge system. The gap between the great gods and cainiao lies in whether they have their own knowledge systems. For beginners like me, we need to do more design, read the design of others, and analyze them carefully.
Draft methodology
After all the steps, the younger brother gradually developed a draft methodology. Visual designers are also similar from the perspective of Interaction designers.
1. Face-to-face communication needs to ensure that the product side is consistent with its own understanding.
This avoids rework and repetitive work in the middle and late stages.
2. Make your own judgment on the requirements and help the product manager clarify their ideas. You should have a professional understanding of the requirements, determine roles, scenarios, tasks, and sort out the information architecture and task process.
3. differentiate task levels to highlight main operations.
Let the user understand "What should I do" in the shortest time ".
4. Follow the interaction rules and dance with your feet.
Familiar with the usage and limitations of interactive controls, and carry out appropriate innovation and integration on this basis to flexibly respond to different needs.
5. Do 60 and 90 points first.
Find the most cost-effective interaction mode for your needs, and then add a distinctive place to make your design more bright.
6. Multiple solutions are provided.
Provide multiple suggestions or solutions for the product side. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of each solution and select the best one with them.
7. "thinking by hand", sketch delivery.
You don't have to worry about plotting. In the early stage, you can first hand-draw a sketch to let the product side know the general effect. Once problems exist, they can be discovered early to avoid useless work.
8. The design should be rational and can withstand scrutiny.
The design draft will always be challenged by various aspects. Prior to the draft, you must carefully consider the issues. Every detail must be justified in order to be recognized by the product side and its superiors.
9. "The Art of Struggle.
When the design side and the product side disagree on the solution, they should explain their considerations to the product and listen to their ideas. After understanding each other, weigh the advantages and disadvantages and strive to reach an agreement.
10. Scenario reproduction and role substitution.
Before the final delivery, you need to experience whether your design is reasonable as a user. If you are not comfortable with it, you must rework it.
How can new users improve?
Many students interested in interactive design ask how to prepare and improve themselves.
I personally think that before entering the industry, we should first collect professional classical bibliography for reading, such as About face and the road to interactive design, and have a preliminary understanding of the profession, determine whether you are interested and whether you are suitable for joining the bank;
Then we need to practice, find an internship in the company, do a project with a teacher or senior brother or sister, play a game, and do some exercises on our own. In short, we need to output the exercises;
It is best to study with a mentor after work, or join industry organizations to create a professional atmosphere for yourself;
Subsequent improvements require accumulation and regular summarization of practical experience to become your own knowledge system, which is the real progress. New people, including younger siblings, still have a long way to go and need to stick to it for a long time to build a positive result.
