Designing a frameset for Web pages with Dreamweaver
You can design your own frameset in Dreamweaver by adding "splitter" to the window.
Tip Before you create a frameset or use a frame, make the frame border visible in Design view of the document window by selecting View > Visual Assistant > Frame border.
To create a frameset, do the following:
- Select Modify > Frameset, and then select the split item from the submenu (for example, split left frame or split right frame).
Dreamweaver splits the window into several frames. If you open an existing document, it will appear in one of the frames.
To split a frame into smaller frames, do the following:
- To split the frame where the insertion point is located, select the split item from the Modify > Frameset submenu.
- To split a frame or a set of frames vertically or horizontally, drag the frame border from the edge of Design view into the middle of Design view.
- To split a frame with a frame border that is not on the edge of Design view, drag the frame border (Windows) while holding down the ALT key, or drag the frame border (Macintosh) while holding down the Option key.
- To split a frame into four frames, drag the frame border from the corner of the design view into the middle of the frame.
Tip To create three frames, first create two frames, and then split one of the frames. It is difficult to merge two adjacent frames without editing the frameset code, so it is more difficult to convert four frames to three frames than to convert two frames to three frames.
To delete a frame, do the following:
- Drag the border frame off the page or onto the border of the parent frame.
If the document in the frame you want to delete has unsaved content, Dreamweaver prompts you to save the document.
Note You cannot completely delete a frameset by dragging the border. To delete a frameset, close the document window that displays it. If the frameset file is saved, the file is deleted.
To resize a frame, do one of the following:
- To set the rough size of the frame, drag the frame border in Design view in the document window.
- To specify the exact size, and to specify the size of the rows or columns that the browser assigns to the frame when the browser window size does not allow the frame to be displayed in full size, use the property inspector.
