In this article, we will introduce the failover detailed parameter configuration which is recommended by different multipath management software when deploying multipath schemes on different operating system hosts.
Solution:
A. Installing PowerPath Windows:
If the CLARiiON flare version is 24 or 24, the Failover mode must be set to 1.
If the CLARiiON flare version is 26 or 26, the VNX OE version is 05.31 or higher:
· PowerPath 5.0 or lower: The Failover mode must be set to 1.
· PowerPath 5.1 or higher: You can set the failover mode to 4 (ALUA) or set to 1 (primary standby mode).
B. When using Veritas and deploying DMP windows:
VERITAS VxVM 5.0 or lower: Failover mode must be set to 1.
VERITAS VxVM 5.1 or higher: Failover mode configuration and storage flare version:
· FLARE 24 or lower: The Failover mode must be set to 1.
· FLARE 26 or higher, VNX OE version 05.31 or later: it is recommended that the failover mode be set to 4 (ALUA) or 1 (main standby mode).
If the CLARiiON flare version is 24 or 24, the Failover mode must be set to 1.
If the CLARiiON flare version is 26 or 26, the VNX OE version is 05.31 or higher
· PowerPath 5.0 or lower: The Failover mode must be set to 1.
· PowerPath 5.1 or higher: You can set the failover mode to 4 (ALUA) or set to 1 (primary standby mode).
B. Linux hosts using Veritas VXVM
If you have PowerPath installed on Linux, the Veritas:failovermode mode for version Vxvm 4.x or 5.x depends on PowerPath.
If the Linux does not have PowerPath installed:
· The Veritas:failover mode for version Vxvm 4.x must be set to 2.
· The Veritas:failover mode for version VXVM 5.0 MP3RP2 (not HF3) must be set to 1.
· For version VXVM 5.0 mp3rp2hf3 or higher veritas:failover mode settings and storage CLARIION/VNX flare versions:
o If the CLARiiON flare version is 24 or 24 before, the Failover mode must be set to 1.
o If the CLARiiON flare version is 26 or 26 after the VNX OE version is 05.31 or later, you can set the failover mode to 4 (ALUA) or set to 1 (primary standby mode).
If the CLARiiON flare version is 24 or 24, the Failover mode must be set to 1.
If the CLARiiON flare version is 26 or 26, the VNX OE version is 05.31 or higher:
o Novell SLES 10.1 (SP1) or higher: The failover mode can be set to 4 (ALUA) or set to 1 (primary standby mode).
o Novell SLES 10.0 (no SP) or lower: Failover mode must be set to 1.
o RHEL 4.6 or higher: The failover mode can be set to 4 (ALUA) or set to 1 (primary standby mode).
o RHEL 4.5 or lower: Failover mode must be set to 1.
o RHEL 5.1 or higher: The failover mode can be set to 4 (ALUA) or set to 1 (primary standby mode).
o RHEL 5.0:failover mode must be set to 1.
o RHEL 6.0 or higher: The failover mode can be set to 4 (ALUA) or set to 1 (primary standby mode).
o Asianux 3.1 or higher: The failover mode can be set to 4 (ALUA) or set to 1 (primary standby mode).
o asianux 3.0:failover mode must be set to 1.
o Failover mode must be set to 1.
If the CLARiiON flare version is 24 or 24, the Failover mode must be set to 1.
If the CLARiiON flare version is 26,28,29, it is recommended that the failover mode be set to 4 (ALUA).
VNX OE version 05.31 or later: Failover mode must be set to 4 (ALUA).
B. VMware Native failover
· CX and CX3 Series: Failover mode must be set to 1.
o FLARE 04.28.000.5.704 version before: Failover mode must be set to 1.
o Flare version 04.28.000.5.704 and version 29:
The §esx 2.x or 3.x:failover mode must be set to 1.
§esx 4.0 or higher: it is recommended to set the failover mode to 4 (ALUA) or to 1 (main standby mode)
· VNX OE version 05.31 or later
o ESX 2.x or 3.x:failover mode must be set to 1.
o ESX 4.0 or higher: Failover mode must be set to 4 (ALUA)
