Differences between orcad and allegro

Cadence has two product chains: IC and PCB. PCB products are further divided into Po series and PS series. Po is the orcad series, and PS is the high-end series. Some people call it the allegro series, which is not accurate.

Before the acquisition of orcad, Cadence used a schematic tool called Concept HDL. The PCB tool was Allegro, the PCB editor, and the SI tool (for signal integrity analysis ).

 
Orcad has three tools, schematic tool caputre CIS, schematic simulation tool PSPICE ad and PSpice AA, and a PCB layout and wiring tool layout (plus ).

After Cadence acquired orcad, it completely integrated orcad's Capture CIS and PSpice with its own products seamlessly and abandoned orcad's previous layout (plus ). Currently, Cadence's Allegro has been fully integrated into the orcad series as a PCB cabling tool. (Here, you can understand why the PS series cannot be called allegro ).

So what is the difference between the orcad series and the PS series?

1. The core products are the same. Orcad's schematic diagram is Capture CIS. There are two schematic diagrams in PS, one is concept HDL before cadence, and the other is Capture CIS, but in PS, the name is changed to design entry CIS; the PCB layout and wiring tool of orcad is PCB edior, and the core of PS series is the same. The schematic simulation tool of orcad is PSPICE ad and PSpice AA, and the PS series is also, however, in the PS series, PSPICE ad and pspiceaa are integrated into a product package and renamed as AMS simulator.

2. the PS series is divided into three levels: l, XL, and GXL, just like the big and small clothes. The bigger the number, the stronger the function. Of course, the more expensive the price is.
L or XL or GXL or Capture CIS, a schematic tool, has no difference. PSPICE functions are the same regardless of level.

3. L-level products of orcad series and PS, except for two differences, the rest are the same. Difference 1: the license of the L series can run Capture CIS or concept HDL, either of which, while the orcad series cannot run concept HDL. Those who only use Capture CIS for the principle design will certainly not care about this difference. Difference 2: The L series can be used in combination with the high-end physical rule limiter and Si L. Of course, the premise is that, you have to purchase the performance option and Si L tools. It is worth noting that Cadence has integrated Si into the orcad series, but the SI functions here are less than those of PS series Si.
