Differences between virtual machine workstation, gsx server and ESX

 

 

VMware Workstation is used for personal desktop systems, VMWare gsx server and VMWare ESX Server

Used for enterprise servers. VMware Workstation and VMWare gsx server require support from the operating system,

VMware ESX Server does not require operating system support and can be installed without an operating system on the host.

VMware gsx server is located between vmware workstation and VMWare ESX Server.

It can be said that ESX is enterprise level, gsx workgroup level, and workstation individual standalone level.

VMware Workstation and VMWare gsx are applications on the Operating System (Windows/Linux). You must first install the host operating system before installing it, And then virtualize the new system.

 

VMware ESX is independent and can be installed on a bare metal instance. Compared with Vmware gsx, VMWare ESX significantly improves performance.

You can use VMware gsx server or workstation to install Oracle RAC. VMware gsx Server

Share folder is not supported.

VMware Workstation is recommended for individual users. VMware gsx server runs slowly.
