Disable self-starting MSN Messenger
Maybe you are just like me, and you have already hated the automatic running MSN Messenger. To appease users who are as angry as we are, Microsoft today posted a detailed article in its knowledge base about how to prohibit this software from running. The method is as follows:
Windows Messenger 4.0 and later versions on Windows XP Professional Edition:
1. Run the gpedit. msc command
2. Double-click to expand the following entries:
Local Computer Policy (Local Computer Policy)
Computer Configuration)
Administrative Templates)
Windows Components (Windows Components)
Windows Messenger
3. Double-click "Do not allow Windows Messenger to run" and click "Enable"
4. Click OK to exit. It will be OK!
Windows XP family edition and Professional Edition Windows Messenger 4.5 and later versions:
1.start the Registration Table editor (regedit.exe)
2. Find the following HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Policies/Microsoft
Select the "edit" menu and click "new"> "key". The name is "Messenger ".
3. Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Messenger.
Select the "edit" menu and click "new"> "key". The name is "Client ".
4. Locate the following entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Messenger/Client
Select the "edit" menu and choose "New"> "DWORD". The name is PreventRun.
5. Right-click the new preventrun, select "modify", and enter "1" in the value data"
6. Exit Registry Editor and messenger.
Windows Messenger 4.0 on Windows XP family edition:
1. Start Windows Messenger 4.0
2. Select "option" from the "Tools" menu"
3. Select the "preferred Parameters" tab to clear the check box before "run this program when Windows starts.
