Do not let the dust pollute your data center

Pollution in data centers often results in high internal temperature, increased device corrosion, frequent drive and hard disk electrical and mechanical faults, and UPS power shortage. With the shrinking of electrical components, it is increasingly sensitive to air pollution. Inhalation of particulate matter and air pollutants may land on the equipment or adsorbed on the human body, and enter the network equipment through the air exchange in the data center, resulting in equipment downtime.

At the same time, the higher precision of electrical equipment, the greater the risk of equipment failure caused by air pollution. The absence of decontamination standards in data centers has led many equipment manufacturers to shorten the Product Warranty Period.

Pollutants come from both inside and outside the data center. Outdoor pollutants can be in a variety of different forms and have corresponding characteristics according to the region, such as vehicle exhaust, industrial smoke, and Plant pollen. Pollutants in the data center include paper, photocopier and printer toner dust, Administrator dandruff and hair, and clothing dust. The packaging of food, beverage, and equipment may carry pollutants.

Data center equipment dust prevention measures:

1. The data center is a closed environment, so it needs to be closed at any time.

2. restrict people entering the data center, except network administrators.

3. Set dust and antistatic cushions at all entrances to eliminate static electricity for clothes and shoes.

4. Food and drinks are prohibited from entering the data center.

5. the device is removed and packaged before entering the data center.

6. Do not store paper or paper supplies in the data center.

7. Try to work outdoors, floor cutting and cable cutting.

8. Ensure that the data center equipment is cleaned, and some of them have to enter the data center. They need to clean the equipment and tools before bringing them into the data center.

9. Regularly change the filters of the air filter. The replacement cycle can be shortened in the early stage of operation of the data center.

10. create and implement a data center cleaning table.

Summary

Pollutants may be solid, liquid, or gas, from indoors or outdoors. Once a pollutant enters the data center, it enters the device through air circulation, causing device failure and network downtime, reducing the service life of the device, increasing the power consumption of the data center, and affecting temperature and humidity control.

To operate a data center normally, a set of pollutant control regulations should be established and implemented and regularly cleaned.
