Does Google, Yahoo, and Bing support 301 redirection?

Since we did not give the exact answer to this loss ratio, we believe that the only way to determine the value of 301 is to analyze a site that has recently changed the domain name. Fortunately, we have a customer who changed the domain name at the beginning of this year and made a 301 redirection to the old address. We have been helping to manage this account, so we have ready-made data for analysis before and after domain name replacement. The following cases will soon show us what we can see from these domain names and how 301 works.

First, we can see the data in the Open Site Explorer of the two sites from the first chart. The reason we started this research is that we want to see how the independent tool calculates two domain names and what links juice will be transferred.

Through this analysis, we can see that 301 seems to have delivered important value. The most important factor is how the search engine tutorial treats redirection.

The next chart shows the total amount of natural search traffic for two sites-before and after migration. As you can see, the total traffic after the migration address quickly becomes normal and stable.

There are two key points in the preceding figure. First, each site tracks the same number of keywords, keeping the controllable variables of the keywords. Second, the traffic of the analyzed sites soared for a period of time during the holidays. Therefore, although the data in the chart does not provide its peak value, it can also show the overall result caused by address migration and the speed of traffic stability.

The next chart shows the natural search traffic of the site's core keywords in Google, Yahoo, and Bing. The data shows that the exact match of this word is about 550,000 times per month.

Obviously, Google is delivering value through 301, and the traffic after migration actually gets better. Yahoo! Although the traffic has been greatly reduced, it has not been able to return to its original level. Bing does not seem to deliver any important value, and traffic continues to decline.

So what are the issues? Through this quick analysis, we can draw the following conclusions:

1. 301 delivering value is safe-our OSE analysis shows that new domain names have the mission and weight to regain old domain names.

2. In addition, through keyword traffic analysis, we can see that 301 in Google seems to play a very good role. After the domain name migration, we did not see any sharp drop in traffic, in fact, it is still steadily increasing. From this point, it is hard to say whether there is quantifiable reduction or PageRank loss. Data shows that 301 is delivering value, and the traffic also illustrates the same problem-even if there is a loss of value, it will not affect this bottom line.

3. But Yahoo! It is different from Bing. It is not hard to see in Yahoo! It cannot pass the same value as Bing through 301, and the total traffic may be affected.
