Domino Mail and send configuration

1.background

The Domino messaging system is a feature of the Domino Server, and the configuration of theDomino Messaging Service is part of what Domino practitioners need to know. Before you know it, you need to know the following terms:DNS,A record,MX record.

1.1. DNS

DNS (domain Name System), a distributed database of domain names and IP addresses that are mapped to each other on the Internet, makes it easier for users to access the Internet without remembering the number of IP strings that can be read directly by the machine. The process of obtaining the IP address of the host name through the hostname is called Domain name resolution (or hostname resolution). The DNS protocol runs on top of the UDP protocol, using the port number 53. RFC 2181 has a canonical description of DNS in RFC 2136, a description of dynamic updates to DNS, and RFC 2308 describes the reverse caching of DNS queries.

Each IP address can have a host name that consists of one or more strings separated by a decimal point. With the hostname, do not memorize each IP device IP address, just remember the relative intuitive meaningful host name on the line. This is the function that the DNS protocol will perform.

There are two ways to map host names to IP addresses:

1) static mapping, each device is configured host-to-IP address mapping, each device independently maintain their own mapping table, and only for the use of this device;

2) dynamic mapping, set up a set of domain Name resolution system (DNS), only in a dedicated DNS server to configure the host-to-IP address mapping, network needs to use host name communication device, first need to DNS server to query the host IP address. [1]

The process of obtaining the IP address of the host name through the hostname is called Domain name resolution (or hostname resolution). In resolving the domain name, you can first use static domain name resolution method, if the static domain name resolution is not successful, then use dynamic Domain name resolution method. You can put some common domain names into the static Domain name resolution table, which can greatly improve the efficiency of domain name resolution.

Under the Windows platform, using the command line tool, enter Nslookup, and the results returned include the IP address (a record), alias (CNAME record), etc. of the domain name. In addition to the above methods, you can also use some DNS to query the site

Dns

such as foreign domestic query domain name of the DNS information.

Common resource record types:

A address this record lists the IP addresses for a specific host name. This is an important record for name resolution.

CNAME Standard name This record specifies the alias of the standard host name.

MX Mail exchanger This record lists the hosts responsible for receiving e-mail messages sent to the domain.

NS Name server This record specifies the name server that is responsible for the given zone.

1.2. ARecording

A (address) record is the IP address record used to specify the hostname (or domain name). Users can point the site server under the domain name to their own Web server. You can also set the subdomain name of the domain name.

In layman's terms a record is the server's IP, domain binding a record is to tell the DNS, when the input domain name to you to boot to set in the DNS of a record corresponding to the server.

1.3. MXRecording

Is the mail exchange record, which points to a mail server that is used to locate the mail server based on the address suffix of the recipient when the e-mail system sends the message. For example, when a user on the internet wants to send a letter to XXXX, the user's mail system finds the MX record for the domain name XXXX through DNS, and if the MX record exists, the user's computer sends the message to the mail server specified by the MX record.

Methods to check if MX records exist

A very useful tool for DNS queries is nslookup, which can be used to query various data in DNS. You can run Nslookup directly under Windows command line to enter an interactive mode, where you can query various types of DNS data.

DNS name resolution data can have a variety of different types, there are SOA type data that sets the parameters of this zone, there is a type of data that sets the IP address of the name corresponding to the MX (mail switch) type data that sets the mail exchange. These different types of data can be queried through Nslookup interactive mode, and the set type command can be used to set the corresponding query type during the query.

Such as:

C:\>nslookup

Defaultserver: [202.106.184.166]

address:202.106.184.166

>55

If the MX record for a domain name you are looking for does not exist, a prompt similar to the following appears:

C:\>nslookup

>set TYPE=MX

>default Server: [202.106.184.166]

address:202.106.184.166

202.106.184.166 can ' t find:non-existent domain

Simple tip: You can also use a command such as nslookup-qt=mx to query the MX record.

2.Mail and send configuration

The main introduction of a single transceiver, one-off, in fact, the expansion of many server architecture model.

2.1.Single-Station transceiver

This configuration is suitable for smaller companies, and a single server is responsible for sending and receiving mail. Some enterprises OA, mail send and receive all with a server also enough. As follows:

2.1.1.Receive Configuration2.1.1.1.Gateway Configuration

The gateway is to point to the address of the Domino mail server, typically an IP address. Different manufacturers of gateways, configuration interface is not the same.

2.1.1.2.Domino Server Document configuration

To configure the Domino server configuration document:

1. Mailing tasks: "Mail routing, SMTP routing";

2. SMTP Listening task: "Enabled"

Such as:

2.1.2.Send Configuration2.1.2.1.Domino Server Document configuration

Mail (foreign SMTP) authentication option configuration:

1. name and password: no;

2. Anonymous: Yes

Such as:

2.1.2.2.network Domain Configuration2.1.2.2.1. Global network domain

Define the global network domain for the message, such as [email protected]. The configuration is as follows:

1. Domino Network language and aliases: Fill in the current Domino server network domain, such as: CHT;

2. Local major Internet network domain: Fill in such as: 163.com.

When this configuration is complete, the message sending rule is:

1. the format for sending messages between users within the system is: Xxx/cht;

2. the format for sending mail to the external system is:[email protected].

Configuration such as:

2.1.2.2.2. external SMTP network domain

1. network domain name: custom fill;

2. Internet network domain: Fill in "*. *", which means all message formats except the local domain name.

2.1.2.3.Configuring the SMTP connection documentation

1. Connection type: SMTP

2. Source server: Local Domino server name

3. Connection method: Direct connection

4. target server: Fill in any

5. Target network domain: The name of the "External SMTP network domain" configured above;

6. Mail task: SMTP mail routing;

7. Number of outgoing messages: 1

2.2.one at a charge .

A one-off configuration is similar to the configuration of a single transceiver, only the "single transceiver" receive configuration to the Domino server responsible for receiving mail, such as: MAIL1; Configure the "Send Configuration" of "single transceiver" to the Domino server responsible for sending mail.

The difference is that two servers are required to configure the SMTP connection documentation.

Configure the SMTP connection documentation, configured as follows:

1. Connection type: SMTP

2. Source server: Receive mail Domino server name, such as: Mail1;

3. Connection method: Direct connection

4. target server: Send mail Domino server name, such as: MAIL2;

5. target network domain: MAIL2 network domain name

6. SMTPMTA Forwarding host: Send mail Domino server IP or domain name;

7. Mail task: SMTP mail routing;

8. Number of outgoing messages: 1

After completing the above configuration, it can be implemented,MAIL1 is responsible for receiving mail,Mail2 is responsible for sending mail.
