If Richard skrenta, like other young people between the ages of 13 and 19 in 1982, did not know that he might think it was not a malicious prank, it will be the first step to change the entire computer world. His "prank" has created a force for an industry of $40 billion a year, which is expected to almost double in the next few years.

Endurer Note: Richard skrenta is only 15 years old when writing a virus elk cloner for Apple II computers

Richard srenta was praised (or condemned, depending on your opinion) for writing and spreading the computer virus that is most likely the first ). Please note that it is a pleasure to harass friends and bloggers. In the technical world, people in our generation have redefined the word virus in numbers rather than biology.

We all remember the days when we were hunting for these elusive digital bugs, which always seemed to be self-replicating through our network before we could delete them. But the days of trying to suppress and eliminate them seem to be behind us (interrupting good luck), not because they are already less common, but because we are an industry, you have learned how to suppress them, that is, first stop them from appearing. If the decrease in virus alerts and news stories is a few signs, we have done better and put them into trouble.

In fact, many of them are not very small, and millions of different variants are recorded. Not only are there more diverse types of threats, but also threats and methods become more confidential and complex. Today, instead of being designed for harassment or entertainment, they are more designed for theft and destruction-theft of identity or personal information, and destruction of life or business.

However, we have become better at reducing and eliminating this threat, isn't it? Well, no? Or are we becoming complacent about relying on standard firewalls and antivirus programs? How long have we summarized the process and trained our end users? We all have these standard preventive actions, but in place, with a variety of hardware and software firewalls, of course, there is also a daily scheduled scan and upgrade of antivirus software, however, for a long period of time, no potential threats were reported to the system. I must admit that it has been a long time before I make such a good conclusion, and it will become longer because I have done some training for end users. In the past, I mentioned virus threats almost at least at monthly meetings, but I haven't done it for a long time since the theme of the regular meeting was confirmed.

These are some questions I will ask myself in the near future. How long has my hardware firewall been there? What is its firmware? Will Vista's Windows Defender replace all other spyware detection and elimination measures? Do I need to consider secondary protection (product? The Norton Antivirus software does recommend disabling Vista's Windows Defender to avoid conflicts between two programs (at least for the Enterprise Edition with Version 10.2 ).

Do I need to "trust" Microsoft products or Symantec products (or both )? My email measures are determined by the speed, including the email service on the customer's machine, and the Internet service provider (ISP? Does Vista's built-in security functions help prevent infections and threats, or are some of their features exploited by criminals, which is no different from the many Windows vulnerabilities in the past? Will my end users be aware of future threats? What will next-generation viruses bring-but more importantly, are I ready?
