To allow the user to control overtype mode using the Insert key. When insert mode is enabled, the user can toggle the insert or overwrite state by using the Insert key. If you are in a overtype state, the user can rewrite the text directly at the cursor to other text.
Before you use this feature, you must first enable it. The following is a detailed procedure for enabling the Word 2007 Insert mode.
1. Click the Office button in the upper-left corner of the Word 2007 window.
2. Click the Word Options button to open the Word Options dialog box.
3. Click "Advanced" on the left.
4. On the right, under Edit options, select the Use Insert Control overwrite mode check box, as shown in the following illustration.
Tip: If you want to use overtype mode while inserting mode is enabled, select the Use overtype mode check box. If you want to disable the Insert Mode feature, the check box is not selected.
5. Click "OK" button.
When you enable the Insert Control overwrite mode check box, you can toggle the insertion and overwrite states by pressing the INSERT key.
