Introduction:
I have recently conceived a practical training book. The VM environment needs to be used for system experiments. This involves the IP settings of the host machine and the client. In the future, the reader's network environment is very different, but the client needs to be able to connect to the external network. This facilitates the experiment, and the IP addresses of the host and client must be fixed.
Lab environment:
Host system: windows xp sp3
Virtual Machine Software: VMware 7
Customer system: Fedora 14
Environment Analysis:
In a VM Virtual Environment, the client needs to access the Internet from the same host. There are two network types available. One is Bridge and the other is NAT (network address multiplexing ). In this experiment, select the NAT method, because if the Bridge method is used, there must be at least two IP addresses that can access the Internet in the network environment, while the NAT method requires only one legal IP address, that is, the host has a valid IP address.
The final implementation is to create a VMnet (Virtual Network) on the host machine: 192.168.123.0/24, which is implemented through VMnet8. The IP address of VMware Network Adapter VMnet8 is 192.168.123.1. The IP address of the client is 192.168.123.123.
Implementation Details:
1. Modify Virtual Network Editor
Virtual Network Editor is the software used to set up Virtual networks for Virtual machines. As shown in my Virtual Network 1, different Virtual networks can be customized here. Click the row where VMnet8 is located.
Virtual Network Editor
Because the IP address range from VMnet is automatically generated when the vmvirtual machine software is installed in the host system, what you see is different from what I give. In, we can see that my VMnet8 network mode is NAT and has been Connected (Connected), allowing automatic IP allocation (DHCP ).
2. Two solutions
First, disable the DHCP function of VMnet. In this case, you need to manually set the IP address of the client.
Set VMnet to non-DHCP
2. After you click section ①, remove the check box before section ② To disable DHCP. Next, change the network address. In section ③, change the network address to 192.168.123.0.
Finally, do not forget to manually change the IP address of the client to 192.168.123.123.
The second is to use the DHCP solution, and the client automatically obtains the IP address.
DHCP settings
3. Select VMnet8, as shown in Area ①, change the network address to 192.168.123.0 in Area ②, and click ③ to open the new dialog box, as shown in Area 4.
DHCP configuration details
In section ②, we can see that the IP address in section ① Is 192.168.123.0. In section ②, we need to change "192.168.186.128" in the first box (start IP address) to the IP address "192.168.123.123" to be obtained by the client ", the IP address in the second frame is also changed to the IP address in the 192.168.123.0 network, but the last part must be greater than 123, less than 254.
Client Nic settings
5. Set the Network connection (Network connection mode) of the client to NAT.
