Ensure that the security LAN Settings only allow shared access by some users

In the company's Lan, you often need to share some folders for others to access. However, once a folder is shared, all computers in the LAN can see the shared folder in the network neighbors. Sometimes we only want some users who need to access this file to access it, if we want other unrelated users to "turn a blind eye" and so on, what if we want to hide our computers in the LAN as well? Can we meet these "difficult" requirements? If you want to know whether such a requirement can be implemented, let's take a look at what is said below!

Hide folders

To prevent other users from directly accessing a folder (for example, My shared folder) through a network neighbor, we can "hide" the folder as follows:

Right-click the folder icon, select "share and security" from the shortcut menu, select the "share" tab in the window that appears, and select "share this folder ", enter the shared folder name in the text box after "Share Name", add a half-width "$" character after the folder name, and click "OK" to save the settings.

If the "$" character is not added to the shared file name in the preceding window, you can also right-click the shared folder, select "RENAME" to add a half-width "$" character (for example, "my shares $") to the name of the shared file ").

After this operation, other users will not see the shared folder in the list of network neighbors when they open their network peers.
If you want a user to access your shared folder, just tell him the absolute path of the shared folder. The path is "your computer name my shared $ ", you only need to enter it in the address bar of the resource manager and press enter to access it. Note: "$" is necessary. If this character is missing, the access will fail.

Hide your computer

The above method is to hide a specific folder in the LAN. If you want to hide your computer, see:
Click "Start> Run", enter "cmd" in the "run" dialog box to open the command line window, and enter "net config server/hidden: yes ", then press enter to access your computer. In this way, you will not be able to see your computer directly from your network neighbors. You can only access your computer by entering the "computer name" in the address bar of the resource manager.

However, the above method can only be used for the current time. You need to re-run the command every time you restart the system. If you want to permanently hide your computer from the network neighbors, you can modify the Registry to open the Registry Editor and expand "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Services/lanmanserver/Parameters" in the left-side window ", change the DWORD type value to "1" in the right window, and press "F5" to refresh the registry.
