The upgrade cycle in the computer field is getting shorter and shorter. Therefore, you should learn to upgrade network equipment to maximize investment utilization. I believe that many enterprise network administrators have upgraded servers and employee computers, so what should we do if the enterprise's routers cannot meet daily applications due to load or port restrictions or even monotonous functions? In fact, using modules to upgrade a vro is the best cost-effective option. Today I will talk about the "hard" upgrade of the routing switch device.
I. Renewal is difficult. We need to upgrade the router.
Many vrouters purchased by enterprises do not undergo any upgrade operations, that is, they only have one CONSOLE Management Interface, AUX auxiliary management interface, and two Ethernet interfaces. In daily use, an Ethernet interface is used to connect to the Internet, and an intranet connection is used to route data. However, this method is difficult to meet the future expansion needs of enterprises. For example, if an enterprise needs to add new network applications such as VOIP and VPN, the purchased router will not have these functions. The enterprise needs to connect multiple CIDR blocks at the lower level of the router, at first, the only Ethernet interface makes this scheme impossible. When enterprises need to connect to the WAN media such as ATM and frame relay, the initial Ethernet RJ45 interface cannot be connected.
It can be seen that the purchased vro is difficult to meet the upgrade requirements of enterprise applications by default, and the difficulty of renewal forces us to consider purchasing new devices. However, there is a way to meet application requirements and avoid purchasing new devices, which is to upgrade the router. Upgrading a vro allows us to do the most with the least money.
2. How to Select a route for upgrading a vro
Generally, there are several ways to upgrade a vro. The most common method is to upgrade the FLASH capacity and add function modules. The former is mainly used to expand the network operating system of the router and the capacity of the configuration file, and mainly for older router products, for example, if the capacity of the new network operating system is too large, the FLASH of the original product cannot be used. By adding a large-capacity FLASH storage component to the router, you can upgrade the router software system to ensure that the old router can also use the latest IOS network operating system.
The latter adds functional modules to upgrade the vro. It mainly targets hardware upgrades and is relatively free of charge in terms of expansion. You can select different types of modules as needed by the enterprise. For example, if an enterprise router needs to connect to a WAN device and has no corresponding interface, you can purchase the WAN module. If the enterprise router port is insufficient, you can purchase the switch module to expand the number of ports; when enterprises require VPN and other functions, but the vro does not support VPN, they can still use the VPN Module to upgrade to meet their needs. Therefore, upgrading a vro through a module is more flexible and meets more actual needs of enterprises.
