Just as Bill Gates left, Eric Schmidt, chairman and CEO of Google, came.
Compared with Gates's usual high profile, Schmidt, who visited China for the second time, did not participate in any public activity. His trip was low-key and mysterious. The arrival of Schmidt is of great significance for Google (China), which is plagued by rumors of resignation from the senior leadership, criticism of market share decline, and copyright of input methods.
In an interview with Caijing Daily, Schmidt commented on the business development of Google (China) and the work of Lee Kaifu, president of Google (China, it also believes that Google's acquisition of Double Click for $3.1 billion won't result in monopoly problems.
Not afraid of Baidu
First Financial Daily: Google has been in China for one year. How do you evaluate Google's performance in the Chinese market?
Schmidt: This trip to China aims to see our business achievements in China in the past year. Over the past year, we have established a strong team in China to launch products targeting the Chinese local market. Our market share is also rising, and traffic is constantly increasing, I am very satisfied.
It is worth noting that the development of Google (China) is accelerating. In the past four months, we have won more than two years of growth in China.
China Financial Daily: How do you evaluate your competitors in China, especially Baidu?
Schmidt: Over the past year, Google has made full use of its technical and financial resources and capabilities in China to boost its business in China. We will eventually win in this market because our technology is better, our products are closer to the local market, and our development speed is faster.
Li Kaifu
First Financial Daily: How much do you score on the performance of Google (China) and Dr. Lee Kaifu? Why did you score this?
Schmidt: if the total score is 20, I have to score 18 to 19. The reason why I scored so high for my work in China is that after we entered the Chinese market, the development speed is very fast, and this performance is largely attributed to Dr. Li Kaifu's leadership.
The First Financial Daily: Google has already reached the top in the world, but Google's development in China has not been the best. Why do you think?
Schmidt: We entered the Chinese market relatively late, but we are catching up quickly. Our investment in China is now playing a good role.
First Financial Daily: You talked about how to assess Kai-Fu Lee anytime, anywhere. What aspects do you assess? How to assess this year?
Schmidt: for any Google executives, the main consideration is to get as many new users as possible and make them very satisfied. In Google's business model, we first strive to attract users. Once the number of users increases, the advertising revenue will also increase accordingly.
First Financial Daily: Many people think that Google's market share in China is not as high as that in the world because Lee Kai-Fu's power is too small. What do you think?
Schmidt: this is not a fact. Google's authorization to Lee Kai-fu is huge, and we will further increase Google's (China) autonomy.
First Financial Daily: at the end of last year, Google's Greater China president Zhou Shaoning left. Will Google adopt the dual-President system in China in the future?
Schmidt: now we have only one president in China, that is, Dr. Lee Kaifu. This organizational structure will be maintained.
