Manage Windows and panels

You can create custom workspaces by moving and working with the Documents window and panel. You can also save workspaces and switch between them. For fireworks, renaming a custom workspace can cause unexpected behavior.

Note: The following illustration is only illustrated with Photoshop. Workspaces have the same effect in all products.

Rearrange, dock, or float the document window

When you open multiple files, the document window appears as a tab.

• To rearrange the tabbed document window, drag a tab of a window to a new location in the group.

• To undock (float or unhide) a document window from a window group, drag the tab of the window from the group.

Note: In Photoshop, you can also select Window > Arrange > Float in window to float a single document window, or select Window > Arrange > to float All content in a window to float all document windows at the same time.

Note: Dreamweaver does not support docking and canceling the document window. You can use the Minimize button in the document window to create a floating window

(Windows), or choose Window > Tile vertically to create a document window that appears side-by-side. For more information about this topic, search for "vertical tiling" in Dreamweaver help.

• To dock a document window in a separate document window group, drag the window to the group.

• To create a stacked or tiled group of documents, drag this window to the drop area at the top, bottom, or side of another window. You can also use the Layout button on the application bar to select a layout for the document group.

Note: Some products do not support this feature. However, these products may contain cascading and tiling commands in the Window menu, or they can be used to help lay out documents.

• To switch to another document in a tabbed document group when you drag an option, drag the option onto the document's tab and keep it for a period of time.

Note: Some products do not support this feature.

Docking and canceling the docking panel

Docking is a set of panels or panel groups that are displayed together, usually in a vertical direction. You can dock or cancel the docking panel by moving the panel to the dock or removing it from the dock.

• To dock the panel, drag its label to the dock (between the top, bottom, or two other panels).

• To dock panel groups, drag their title bar (a solid blank bar above the label) to the dock.

• To remove a panel or panel group, drag its label or title bar away from the dock. You can drag it to another dock or make it free-floating.

The navigator panel is now in its own dock

Move panel

When you move the panel, you see a blue-highlighted drop area where you can move the panel. For example, you can move the panel up or down in the dock by dragging one panel to the narrow blue drop area above or below the other panel. If the area dragged to is not a drop area, the panel floats freely in the workspace.

Note: the mouse position (not the panel position) activates the drop area, so if you don't see the drop area, try dragging the mouse to the location where the drop area should be.

• To move the panel, drag its label.

• To move a panel group, drag its title bar.

The narrower blue drop area indicates that the color panel will dock itself above the layers Panel group.

Add and remove Panels

If all panels are removed from the dock, the docking will disappear. You can create a dock by moving the panel to the right edge of the workspace until the drop area appears.

• To remove a panel, right-click (Windows) or control-click (MAC) Its tab, select Close, or deselect the Panel from the Window menu.

• To add a panel, select the Panel from the Window menu, and then dock it in the desired location.

Working with panel groups

• To move a panel to a group, drag the Panel tab to the highlighted drop area of the group.

Add a panel to a panel group

• To rearrange the panels in the group, drag the Panel tab to a new location in the group.

• To remove a panel from a group so that it floats freely, drag the panel's label outside the group.

• To move a group, drag its title bar (the area above the tab).

Stacked floating Panel

The panel floats freely when you drag the panel out of the dock without dragging it into the drop area. You can place a floating panel anywhere in the workspace. You can stack floating panels or panel groups so that they move as a whole when you drag the top title bar.

• To stack a floating panel, drag the Panel's label to the drop area at the bottom of the other panel to drag the panel.

• To change the stacking order, drag the panel tab up or down.

Note: Make sure to loosen the label on the narrower drop area between the panels, rather than the wider drop area in the title bar.

• To remove a panel or panel group from the stack so that it floats freely, drag its label or title bar away.

Adjust Panel size

• To minimize or maximize a panel, panel group, or Panel stack, double-click the tab. You can also double-click the tab area (the blank area next to the tab).

• To resize a panel, drag any side of the panel. Some panels cannot be resized by dragging, such as the color panel in Photoshop.

Collapse and expand Panel icons

You can collapse the panel to an icon to avoid confusion in the workspace. In some cases, the panel is folded into an icon in the default workspace.

• To collapse or expand all panel icons in a column, click the double arrow at the top of the docking area.

• To expand an individual panel icon, click it.

• To resize the Panel icon to see only the icon (no label is visible), adjust the width of the dock until the text disappears. To display the icon text again, increase the width of the dock.

• To collapse the expanded panel to its icon, click its tab, its icon, or the double arrow in the Panel title bar.

• To add a floating panel or panel group to the icon docking, drag its tab or title bar to it. (When you add to the icon docking, the panel is automatically folded as an icon.) )

• To move the Panel icon (or Panel icon Group), drag the icon. You can drag the panel icon up or down in the dock, drag it to another dock (they will take the docked panel style), or drag it to the outside dock (they will appear as floating icons).
