Rules and preference for designing a website can differ from website to website depending on the target audience, whether it is entertainment website or login ate website or just a personal portfolio. but there are still somethings that are common in all websites, and if followed can make your site look better. so here are few things I wowould like to discuss.
Select the design method based on the target audience. Design methods for entertainment websites, corporate websites, and personal websites are different. However, there are some general principles in website design. If these rules are followed, the website looks more professional. Next, we will introduce several key points.
1. Font Style and Size
1. Font size and font size
Selecting a right font and size is essential. for example fonts such as Verdana, Arial and Helvetica look especially good in websites, whereas fonts such as Times New Roman, Courier, Sans-Serif... etc types won't look good. also the size of the font plays important role in website design, smaller sized fonts look neat but it is more difficult to read. so it is your demo-to make a choice between the look and usability. following is the comparison between Times New Roman and Verdana.
Choosing the appropriate font size and font size is an important part of website design. For example, using Verdana, Arial, and Helvetica fonts on a website will make the page look very comfortable. However, fonts such as Times New Roman, Courier, and Sans-Serif won't have this effect. Similarly, font size can also play an important role in the website. A slightly smaller font size will make the content look more neat, but it is not conducive to user browsing. Therefore, you need to make a choice in terms of appearance and availability. The following is a comparison between Times New Roman and Verdana:
This sentence is in Times New Roman with size 3 (Times New Roman3)
This sentence is in Verdana with size 3 (Verdana3 font)
This sentence is

Choice) (Verdana2 font) (is a good Choice)
This sentence is
In Times New
Roman with size 1 (Times New Roman1)
This sentence
Is in Verdana
With size 1 (Verdana1 font)
2. Using tables? Don't forget the cellpadding
2. Use the cellpadding attribute when using a table
Almost all the websites use tables in one way or another, but using tables with a sense of design will make your site look better. if you use tables background colors in your page, then it is very important to use cellpadding, otherwise all the text inside the table will stick to the border of the table. which is not recommended at all. here is the Examples:
Almost all websites use one or more forms, but only the correct use of the form will make the website look more beautiful. If you use the background color of a table on a webpage, you must use the cellpadding attribute. Otherwise, the table content will go to the edge, which is not very effective. The following is a comparison. The preceding table uses the cellpadding attribute, which is not used below. This table has a cellpadding of 10. this table has a cellpadding of 10. this table has a cellpadding of 10. this table has a cellpadding of 10. this table has a cellpadding of 10. this table has a cellpadding of 10.
This table has a cellpadding of 0. this table has a cellpadding of 0. this table has a cellpadding of 0. this table has a cellpadding of 0. this table has a cellpadding of 0. this table has a cellpadding of 0.
3. Design websites for 800x600 resolution
3. Resolution for website design considerations
While 1024x860 resolution is the most used resolution online, it is recommended to design your website 800x600 compatible. because there are people who still use 800x600 resolution. there are different ways to design a website which is compatible to 800x600 resolution.
Currently, the most commonly used resolution is x860. However, you must ensure that the website can be displayed in the X600 resolution status because users still use this resolution. Many methods can be used to ensure that the website is displayed at a resolution of X.
1. For example you can design it in a way that it will stretch to any size (any resolution), here is one good example of such website. Alamy.com
1. For example, you can design a website to automatically adapt to any size (or resolution). Alamy.com is such a website.
2. Another way is fixed size such as this website. The size does not change no matter how much is the resolution. Yahoo.com
2. Another method is to design the website to a fixed size, such as W3pop.com, which will not change with the resolution. The same is true for Yahoo.com.
3. and finally not so user friendly but still acceptable design that is all the content is placed on the table not exceeding 800 pixels. there will still be a horizontal scroller on your browser but at least you don't have to scroll it when you are reading something on the site. here is a good example of such site: Tomshardware.com
3. At last, there is another method that is not widely known, but still used, that is, to place content in the table with a width of no more than 800 pixels. Although a horizontal scroll bar appears in the browser, you do not need to use it when you read the information. Tomshardware.com is such a website.
4. Pop up window? Bad idea
4. Avoid the pop-up window
Pop up windows are a good to catch user's attention and force him to take action (at least to make him close the window ), but it is annoying and generally users don't like it. so unless it is very essential to use a pop up window for you-I wowould say avoid using it. even though you can program it to pop up only once, it is still considered a bad idea.
Using the pop-up window can really attract the user's attention and urge them to take actions (at least make them read the content), but most users are bored with this. Therefore, the window can be used only when necessary. However, it is best not to use it once.
Especially now with the browser's build in pop-up blockers, most of the popups are left blocked.
Many browsers now have pop-up box shields, and most pop-up boxes are blocked.
5. Mention Image height and width in html <width = "120" height = "100">
5. Use <width = "120" height = "100"> in html to set the image height and width.
When browser opens a participating page it tries to understand the html, so when you leave the image without mentioning its dimensions, browser gets confused how much space it supposed to take, thus it will slow down the loading of the page. however if you mention the width and height of the image, browser can know exactly how much space shocould it allocate for particle image, and even before the image loads it can allocate this space to it and continue loading the rest of the page. so if you want your pages to load faster, don't forget to include image width and height.
When a browser opens a webpage, it will try to understand the html language. Therefore, the browser does not know how much space the image will occupy without involving the image size, therefore, the image download speed slows down. However, if the length and width of the image are set, the browser can understand the image storage space. The browser will download the previously allocated image space and continue to download other parts of the web page. Therefore, you must use <width = "120" height = "100"> in html to set the image height and width.
6. Follow the web conventions.
Follow website design rules
Web conventions are very useful when it comes to web design, if you follow them you will make your user's life a lot easier. after all only useful things will become a convention. for example having the logo on the top-left corner of your website and linking it to the homepage is one of the conventions. or employing consistent navigation throughout your website is another convention.
When designing a website, it is important to follow the website rules so that users can conveniently browse it. Of course, only valid methods can become rules. For example, the logo should be placed in the upper left corner of the website and can be linked to the homepage. This is a rule. The navigation system of a website must be consistent.
7. Avoid under construction pages.
7. Avoid incomplete web pages
Publish your websites only if it is fully completed, or if you have unfinished pages then do not put those pages online yet and do not provide link to them until they are fully completed. under construction pages are totally useless, it will waste your user's click and might even generate negative effect towards your website (or you ). because if you think from user's perspective you don't want to click on the link just to find out that this page is under construction.
Only after the website construction is complete can it be displayed on the internet. If some webpages are not complete, do not put them online or link them. Incomplete Web pages do not work. They only waste users' clicking time, which negatively affects the website. Because, from the user's perspective, you certainly don't want to see a website under construction after the link is complete.
8. Underlined texts that are not links.
8. Do not underline non-link text content
Nly links shoshould be underlined, if you underline the text then make sure the user will not confuse it for a link.
You can underline the content that can be linked, but do not underline the non-link text, because this will lead to confusion.
9. Avoid intros and Welcome pages
9. Discard the boot page and welcome page
Unless you have a very impressive intro (maybe designed by 2 advanced) avoid using intros. as for the welcome pages that has an "enter" button and some info about the site shocould be avoided as well. basically with welcome page you are stopping your users from actually seeing your site, you are keeping them one step behind. you never know maybe some of your users leave your site without even clicking on your 'enter' button, if so then you are loosing a potential MERS.
If the boot page is not very impressive, do not appear. It is recommended that you do not see a welcome webpage that displays "access" and some information. If you use the welcome page, it means you need to click one more time to find the required content. You may not know that some users have left the website before clicking the "Enter" key, which means the website has lost some potential users.
