In order to make the printer more effective, it is very common to set it as a shared printer. Although the use of shared printers has brought us convenience, however, when accessing a shared printer, we often encounter some inexplicable print faults, which seriously affect our shared printing efficiency. To improve the efficiency of Shared printing, We Need To summarize the Common Shared printing faults so that we can quickly solve various print faults in the future. Now, I will share my experiences in troubleshooting and hope it will be helpful to you.

Shared printer access denied

Some time ago, after the organization bought a new HP Laser printer and installed it directly in Windows Vista computer system, the printer can print and process text materials normally. Later, due to work needs, the other two Windows XP computers in the same working group as Windows Vista computers also need to use printers to process text materials, at first, colleagues in the Organization transmitted the text to be printed through FTP to the Windows Vista computer for printing. After a while, they thought it was not very convenient, so I installed network printers for them, so that they can directly access the shared printer in their own computer to print materials.

After I set up a shared printer, my colleagues can complete the shared print operation through the network. However, this is not a long time, and my colleagues have responded that each shared print operation was performed recently, A fault message is displayed on the System screen that the shared printer rejects access.

Find the reason based on the Access Principle

We know that when a common client accesses a shared printer, it first needs to determine whether to authenticate the access user based on the shared access mode. After Authentication, the common client can find the target shared printer through the network neighbor window. When the access permission is guaranteed, the common user can perform the shared print operation in the client system.

According to the principle of shared printing and the fault above, I found that when my colleagues tried to share the print from their Windows XP computer, the system screen did not show the authentication dialog box, this indicates that the authentication operation has been successful, which means that the shared access mode of Windows Vista computer system is in guest only mode, or the user account and password used by a common user to log on to the local client system are exactly the same as the existing account and password of Windows Vista computer system. After further query by the author, the Logon account used by my colleagues to log on to the local client system is "Administrator", while the Windows Vista computer system also has a "Administrator" account, this is also the reason why the authentication operation is successful.

After authentication, the "Administrator" account should have the right to access the shared printer. Why is an error message indicating access denied? Did we cancel the "Administrator" account's Shared printing permission? Click Start/set/printer and fax. In the displayed printer List window, right-click the target shared printer icon, run the "properties" command from the shortcut menu to open the attribute settings window for the target shared printer. Click the "Security" tab to open the tag settings page, on this page, I can see that the "print" permission of the "Administrator" account has been set to "Allowed". This indicates that the "Administrator" account should be able to print materials by sharing the printer, but in fact, the shared printer rejects the normal access of the "Administrator" user. Why?

After the system is restarted, a transit occurs.

In desperation, I plan to restart the Windows Vista computer system, because restarting the system can solve many hidden print faults. After the system restarts successfully, the author enters the login account "Administrator" and then click the "OK" button to find that the system can open the desktop of the corresponding system without entering the password, this indicates that no password is set for the "Administrator" account. Will it cause this fault if no password is set? I think of the default security policy of Windows Vista. A user account without a password can only log on to the console, but cannot perform other operations. To verify that your guess is correct, I tried to set a logon password for the "Administrator" account, and then re-logged on from my colleague's computer system. As a result, I found that access to the shared printer was normal, this indicates that the problem is caused by the absence of a password for the "Administrator" account.

Of course, you can also enable the "guest" account in Windows Vista and set the shared access mode of the system to the guest-only mode, in this way, even if no password is set for the "Administrator" account, the shared printer can be smoothly accessed. When you set the sharing mode of Windows Vista to the guest-only mode, you can click the "Start"/"run" command in sequence and execute "gpedit. MSC command to open the Group Policy console window of the corresponding system. In the left-side area of the window, expand "Computer Configuration", "Windows Settings", "Local Policy", and "Security Options", and double-click "network access" under the target branch: local Account Sharing and security mode, select only the guest mode.
