UTF-8 files can be divided into two formats: No BOM and BOM.

A storage or byte stream with a BOM header must be encoded in the Unicode Character Set. In the end belong to that one (UTF-8 or UTF-16 or utf-32), can be determined by the header.

In a UTF-8 encoded file, BOM occupies three bytes in the file header to indicate that the file belongs to UTF-8 encoding.

1. How to remove the BOM header from editplus
