In Word, there are many intelligent automated features that are handy to use, but sometimes do not require these automatic features. For example, many people are not accustomed to using the AutoNumber feature, and do not like to automatically appear on the next line after a row has entered the ENTER key. When automatic numbering occurs when you press ENTER, you can cancel the automatic numbering that appears when you press the "Ctrl+z" key combination.
How do you turn off this feature? Open the Tools menu, choose AutoCorrect Options, eject the AutoCorrect dialog box, select the AutoFormat As You Type tab, and deselect the check box for the AutoNumber list item in the automatically apply when you type column. The next time you use it, the AutoNumber feature will no longer work.
You can check the AutoCorrect dialog box to see if there are any features you don't need, and uncheck the appropriate options.
