Single-user Cisco Products
Some products of the SOHO series use dial-up technology, such as ISDN Integrated Service data network, which allows users to roam from one place to another, or dial to the central site.
The Cisco200 series for ISDN has gradually withdrawn from the market. We recommend that you upgrade it to the 700 series. The 600 series can be used with digital user line DSL) interfaces. The 800 Series features more than the 700 series, especially in terms of security and upgrade to the popular 1000 Series LAN) extenders. The following is a series of introductions.
1. Cisco 600 Series
The first device to be tested is 677. The most common application of this device is to connect a single PC to an asymmetric digital user line ASDL). For high-speed remote access, you can connect to the Internet or a collaborative network. For a single PC connection, you can use a RJ-45 cable to connect 677 to the PC Ethernet card. If there are multiple devices on the remote end, certain types of hubs must be used to achieve multiple connections. When multiple remote devices are installed, 677 supports Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol DHCP). DHCP can automatically assign an I P address to multiple remote devices. If you want to assign a single IP address to a remote device, 677 also supports the port address translation feature, which allows multiple devices to share one IP address.
Therefore, we can regard 677 as a physical connection from ADSL to Ethernet RJ-11 with a RJ-45 connector.
The basic concept of 677 is applicable to other 600 series devices, such as the International type for SDSLDSL) 673 and 675 for the adsl cap type. Now you don't have to worry about the meaning of these acronyms. They will be discussed later. Generally, if you do not know the exact meaning of them, you only need to match these abbreviations when using them. For example, an ADSL line requires an ADSL device and an SDSL line requires an SDSL device.
2. Cisco 700 series
This series is a single-user access product that uses the ISDN line, although Cisco advertised on the market that it is a device that accesses Inernet through the ISDN line, in fact, it is also suitable for remote users who connect to a collaborative network through ISDN. Essentially, this series of devices is divided into two categories. The first category provides an ISDN port and a single Ethernet connection m for the world, and m for North America ). The second type provides an ISDN port and a four-port hub built in for Ethernet connection 772 m for use worldwide, and the series for use in North America ). 775 M also has two RJ-11 ports to provide the simulated dial-up service. This function is also available in North America's 776M.
Cisco this series of products only provide services for Primary ISDN routers and can connect to a single workstation or up to five remote devices. The features include STAC compression, full route support, DHCP for automatic IP Address allocation, and multi-link PPP Point-to-Point Protocol. The PPP protocol combines multiple ISDN channels to provide bandwidth larger than 64 Kbps.
3. Cisco 800 Series
The 800 series has many new features than the 700 series, mainly reflected in the security options and supported interface types. In addition to the ISDN and Ethernet LAN connections provided by the 700 series, a serial port is also provided. This serial port connects vrouters Of the 800 series to the leased line and uses advanced Data Link Control (HDLC), frame relay, and X.25 encapsulation types. These encapsulation types will be discussed later. The key features of the 800 series are support for Ipsec and firewall features, and secure Virtual Private Network VPN. Vrouters Of the 800 Series run in the complete Internet Operating System IOS) and have the memory to be upgraded to support the new IOS version in the future.
Both 801 and 802 support an ISDN connection and an Ethernet LAN connection. The 803 and 804 have an ISDN connection, a built-in four-port hub, and two RJ-11 Analog voice lines. The model that supports the standard Cisco serial port and an Ethernet connection is 805.
When selecting between the 700 series and the 800 series, it depends on your budget and needs. Generally, if the budget permits, the 800 series has more features and can protect your investment to some extent. If you select a vro for a VPN, you can choose the 800 series. Again, if you use a leased line to connect to a remote user, the wise choice is the 800 series.
4. Cisco 1400 series
This type of router adds commercial functions to the 600 series DSL routers. The 1400 series can connect DSL lines to a LAN and provide firewall and VPN functions, to support secure remote connections on a collaborative network or over the Internet. This series of routers has two types: 1401, an Ethernet interface and an ATM interface used to connect to the ATM man WAN); 1417, there is a common Ethernet interface and a DSL interface that can connect to the ADSL compatible device.
Cisco Small Enterprise Solutions
High-end devices are SOHO products, which are used in small to medium-sized enterprise branches. The most obvious difference between these devices is that there is an expansion slot that allows users to take customized measures based on the interface on the device. This type of hardware has two series: 1600 and 1700.
1. Cisco 1600 series
The 1600 series is used to connect an Ethernet LAN to ISDN, asynchronous serial or synchronous serial WAN services. Cisco1601 has an Ethernet port, a serial port used to lease a line) and a WIC slot. 1602 has the same configuration, but its wa n port has a built-in CSU/DSU. 1603 Replace the serial port with the ISDN port. 1604 there is an Ethernet interface, an ISDN interface, a port used to connect to the ISDN phone, And a WIC slot. The 1605R router has two Ethernet ports and a WIC slot.
Vrouters of this series have two options: the pure digital model listed above, or the R option. Both of them mean that the vro runs in RAM rather than in the flash memory. The advantage of using the R option is that it allows IOS in the router to be upgraded from any interface in the running state.
Compared with the 800 series, the 1600 series WIC slot provides the flexibility of device configuration, and the router does not have to be mounted on the bracket of the branch.
2. Cisco 1700 Series
The 1720 series including 1750 and 1700 were made in the first batch. We call them modular routers, the reason for their modularization is that users can select and combine the desired interface types based on the changes they need. In addition to its modularization, the 1700 series also supports regular IOS functions. Compared with the series discussed so far, it has higher processing capabilities, such as processing encryption.
1720 has the following fixed ports: a standard Ethernet port that can automatically detect the 10 Mbps or Mbps LAN connected to it and operate according to the detection results. A Console port, A terminal can be connected through this port, and an AUX port can be used for asynchronous communication. 1720 also has two open slots that can be inserted into the WIC card. These slots allow you to select the interface type used by the router. Depending on your budget and needs, select one or two WIC card options from the following to configure your 1720:
High-speed serial ports used for asynchronous or synchronous operations such as WIC cards with one or two port configurations ).
A two-port low-speed serial card for asynchronous or synchronous operations. Low Speed means up to 128 Kbps ).
One ISDN port.
A synchronous serial port with a built-in channel service unit/digital service unit CSU/DSU.
A t-1 interface with built-in CSU/DSU to support the T-1 speed.
The 1700 series is a full-featured router product in the Cisco Series. It is positioned to expand the 1600 series features. Key features of this series will be discussed later) it is the function of the IOS Firewall, the support for encryption and Ipsec, the tunneling technology for VPN, the user authentication through CHAP, and the support for service quality by using the thing weight queuing and RSVP technology.
1750 is basically the same as 1720, but it also supports voice processing cards. 1750 is positioned as a multi-service product. Multiple services mean that the product can process voice, fax, video services, and conventional data. Essentially, 1750 works on a tunneling device because the voice data is encapsulated in the transmission protocol used by the WAN interface, such as frame relay or HDLC, and transmit it to the multi-service device voice port at the other end of the WAN. However, this is not the case when voice data on an IP address is encapsulated in a packet group packet containing the source and target IP addresses. 1750 has a Console port, 10/100 Ethernet port, AUX asynchronous port, two WIC card slots, and one plug-in voice module slot. The speech modules supported in this series are the same as those used in the 2600 and 3600 series. The voice module works in unique mode.
