Data mining-basic tools that librarians should master-search engine technology

Abstract: This paper reveals a way for librarians to provide information services in the future digital library, and discusses the basic principles and methods of data mining and WEB mining; emphasize the necessity for librarians to master the new technology of data mining.

I. INTRODUCTION
With the advent of the information age and the development of INTERNET technology, library functions will become more and more diversified in the future. Due to the great success of WEB technology, people are increasingly relying on the INTERNET to obtain knowledge and information. Apparently, the number and time for people to go to the library are getting fewer and fewer. One day, people will no longer go to the library to borrow a book or ask a certain question. Faced with such a huge challenge, people engaged in library work put forward the idea of digital library. After painstaking research, the digital library has been successfully established. Digital Library is a standard electronic information infrastructure, which uses distributed data storage, users can search for and retrieve information they need in a large region through various links and operations, and the entire operation is open to users. That is to say, the digital library can store data in multiple sites. Users can search for information from these sites with only one simple operation. Digital libraries are the development of traditional libraries in the information age. They not only contain the functions of traditional libraries, but also provide comprehensive information access services. People hope that digital libraries will become the information centers and hubs of libraries in the future.
However, from the perspective of network technology, digital libraries are similar to other WEB information sources. They are all information sites built on the INTERNET. From the perspective of users, they are concerned with obtaining information and knowledge from the INTERNET. They cannot understand whether you are a digital library or a general website on the INTERNET. However, it is not easy or even impossible to retrieve useful information from thousands of WEB sites, what's more, the information requestor often does not have much time to roam in the vast ocean of data. We know that in digital libraries, librarians are information experts who are information organizers, information producers, information service providers, and information managers. It is through the information service activities of librarians that digital libraries are different from other information sites. In this case, how should librarians, especially those in academic libraries, provide information services in the digital library in the 21st century? What advanced technical tools must librarians master to serve users? This is an important issue that should be studied in the library field.
2. Technology selection
WEB is a very successful information system. This system provides the opportunity to publish and disseminate information globally, allowing anyone to disseminate and obtain information anytime anywhere. The dissemination and acquisition of unstructured WEB information results in information explosion. A large amount of unstructured information is distributed across the INTERNET. A large amount of information brings convenience to people, but also brings many problems: excessive information is difficult to digest; information authenticity is difficult to identify; information security is difficult to ensure; information forms are inconsistent, it is difficult to unified processing. In the ocean of information, even the most advanced search engines can only obtain information from 1/3 indexed WEB sites. People began to propose a new slogan: "Learn to discard information ". People began to consider: "How can we discover useful knowledge and improve information utilization in a timely manner without being overwhelmed by information ?" In fact, as a non-professional information manager, we need to obtain the latest, most authoritative and comprehensive information from the vast ocean of information, it is almost impossible to obtain useful knowledge from it. You need to know that the experts and professors in colleges and universities or research institutes urgently need the latest and most authoritative knowledge and information in this field due to the urgent study plan, they don't have time to search for the required information on countless pages on thousands of sites. Therefore, there should be an intermediate link between the information provider and the information consumer. Through this link, the information consumer can quickly and conveniently obtain the desired information, it is such an urgent need to provide librarians with opportunities to show their talents. Library members use information management skills to directly provide useful information to users. Librarians should seize the opportunity to seriously consider how to extend their service domains in the INTERNET environment, from desktop consulting services to WEB information space-based e-consulting services.
