Dellr710 server, there are 4 450G hard drives, the default do RAID5. Our aim is to take one of the 3 hard drives to do RAID5, leaving a hard drive to do hot standby.
Here, let me give you a concrete explanation.
① 4 Hard drives made of RAID5
② 3 hard drive to do RAID5, a hard disk to do hot spare
The difference between the two configurations. We should all know that RAID5 requires a minimum of three hard drives, of which a hard disk is used to do data redundancy, if do RAID5 server has a hard drive broken down, then we need to dial down the bad disk, and then put on a new hard disk, the system will automatically synchronize data. Here we take out a hard disk to do a hot spare, when the server has a hard drive is broken, the system will automatically connect the hot spare, and then the bad hard drive isolation, and then data synchronization, here will reduce the process of our people operation.
The specific steps are as follows:
Start the server first, and when the [Press<ctrl><r>to Run Configuration Utility] prompt appears, press Ctrl+r
The following image shows the interface, move the cursor to the virtual disk, you can see that the current 4 hard drive has been made RAID5
Here, it does not meet our three hard drive to do RAID5, a hard drive to do hot-standby requirements, to the default do a good RAID5 delete, redo. The cursor moves to [Virtualdisk 0] To select the virtual disk, press F2, and then select [Delete VD] To delete the virtual disk
Here is the interface after the deletion, you will find nothing.
In [No Configuration Present!] Press the F2 key on the, select [Create NEWVD] Creates a new virtual disk
The following is the interface for creating a new virtual disk
Select RAID5 in the RAID level, then tick three disks, ok OK
From the figure below we can see three hard drives made up of a virtual disk
We press [Ctrl + N] to the next page and see that the last disk is not used
We move the cursor to the last hard drive, press F2, select Make Global HS, and then determine
Back to the first page, we saw that the hot backup has been
In the final step, RAID initialization, the cursor moves to the virtual disk, press F2 to select [Initialzation][start Init.]
When it's done, all the work is done and the machine is restarted, and the system can be installed.
