Symptom (s): Open an Excel attachment in Outlook error message: Can ' t create file:filename. Right-click the folder you want to create the "file in," and then click Properties on the shortcut menu to check your permis Sions for the folder. Unable to open attachment. This is not true of all Excel attachments.
Reason: Outlook temporary folder permissions are changed or missing.
Workaround:
1. Click Start > Run and type regedit.
2. Click Edit > Find and Type OutlookSecureTempFolder.
3. When Regedit has found the entry, it'll tell you where your Outlook temporary files are stored. It'll look similar to:c:\documents and settings\username\local Settings\Temporary Internet files\olkrandomnumber
4. Open my Computer and navigate to the location on your hard drive.
5. Delete all of the files in this folder.
6. Restart Microsoft Outlook and you should are able to open your attachment.
