Fedora Hard Drive Installation

Source: Internet
Author: User

This article takes Fedora 10 as an example to use the CD-ROM image file hard drive to install fedora (that is, optical drive support is not required). The version of Fedora 9 is quite similar to this one (you just need to change the mirror name).

This tutorial uses a mirrored-fedora DVD image, which can easily be installed with LiveCD mirroring, but slightly different, see Fedora hard Drive installation (using LIVECD).

preparatory work

You need to get Fedora's installation DVD image, Fedora 10, this file is Fedora-10-i386-dvd.iso, please put it in fat or ext partition, if placed in a folder, the name of the folder best concise, Don't use Chinese. do not put it in a file with a lower version of the Mirror , and Fedora 10 does not seem to support installing from an NTFS-partitioned hard disk.

You should also make sure that you can start grub, and if you are currently using a Windows system, refer to the Windows Xp/vista boot grub, and you can complete its configuration within two minutes.

Get the files you want to start

Now you need to extract some files from the mirrored file.

1. Mount CD

If you are using a Windows system, you can use virtual CD-ROM software, such as daemon tools, to mount the mirrored file.

If you are using a Linux operating system, use the root user in the terminal (assuming the current directory is the directory where Fedora-10-i386-dvd.iso resides):

# Mkdir/cdrom
# Mount Fedora-10-i386-dvd.iso/cdrom-o Loop

The first step might be to get a hint that/cdrom already exists and don't bother with it. You can now access the contents of the ISO file via/cdrom.

2. Extract Files

Copy the vmlinuz, initrd.img two files under the Isolinux folder in the ISO file to a FAT or EXT2/3 partition.

3. Uninstall CD

In Windows, use the virtual CD-ROM software uninstall (optional). On the Linux system, leave the/cdrom folder and enter the following command to uninstall:

# Umount/cdrom

hard Drive installation

Reboot your computer and go to grub and press C to enter the command line status. Enter command:

Path to Kernel Vmlinuz
Path to INITRD initrd.img
Boot

Can. Tip:

Suppose you put Vmlinuz and initrd.img in the Fedora folder (hd0,5), the command you want to enter is:

Kernel (hd0,5)/fedora/vmlinuz
INITRD (hd0,5)/fedora/initrd.img
Boot

For information about (hd0,5), refer to the Grub disk partition representation method

After Setup starts, choose to look for the ISO image from your hard disk, and then give it the partition and path you want. Note that in Fedora 8, the IDE hard disk is also represented by SDA.
