FLAC vs APE (3)

Recently, many new people are asking: ape, flac which is better? Well, before answering this question, let's talk about how ape and flac came from. (Don't tell me that your ape and flac are converted to MP3 files.) To get lossless music, first, capture the CD file to your computer and change it to WAV. Some people may ask, will the sound quality be lost when the captured track is changed to WAV compared to the original CD? The answer is: it is very likely that there will be losses, but it can be done without any loss at all.
After all, CD is a pile of 010101 pieces of plastic, as long as you can read 010101, then you get the same WAV sound quality as the original CD. Unfortunately, in general, it may be caused by a variety of reasons that make it impossible to fully read the right. (For example, the quality of the optical drive, the possibility of Reading Errors for a CD disk for a long time, etc.) in order to increase the chance of reading 010101 correctly, you need to use professional rail capture software such as EAC to capture the rails, instead of using foobar for direct conversion or even WMP. (Although the use of EAC cannot be guaranteed to be absolutely correct, the probability of being completely correct is already very high)
Now, let's assume that you have a WAV file with no read errors. Then you can convert the format to obtain ape and flac. WAV is 1411 KBPS, while ape is usually only several hundred KBPS. Some people think that if there are so many small files, it is definitely a loss. Now let's take a look at what happened during format conversion? Why is the conversion of a WAV file to ape and flac much smaller? The specific situation is quite complicated. Let's use a simple example to illustrate it. Format conversion actually refers to encoding. What is encoding? You can understand it as a way to record information. Assume that there are 5x5 drawers in A cabinet, and there are two items, A and B, respectively.

WAV records the arrangement of A and B in this list.
How did ape and flac record the arrangement? Let's take a look. Set two quantities N and M to N to represent the number of rows, and M to represent the number of columns. N can be 1 ~ 5, M can also be 1 ~ 5. In this range, when N + M is an even number, there is A in the drawer. When N + M is an odd number, there is B in the drawer.
The recorded information becomes:
N = 1 ~ 5, M = 1 ~ 5

When the remainder of (N + M)/2 is equal to 0, the drawer (N, M) is A, not equal to 0, the drawer (N, M) is B.

It seems that the method behind is more complicated. That's because there are as few drawers as 5*5. When the drawer turns into 500*500, what about 500 * W? Is it necessary to use the previous method to record a large space? Is the method of recording ape and flac much simpler? (Of course, the recorded files will become smaller.) But let's see if they have changed their records? Is there any loss? The answer is: no. Of course, the recording of Audio Information is much more complicated than this, so the compression ratio can only be about half, and it is only possible for countless people to break their heads.

Now, we know that ape and flac are two more advanced audio recording methods than WAV. Which one is better? The difference between ape and flac is that algorithms (using mathematical methods to optimize recording methods) are similar. Now everyone knows that converting the same WAV file to ape and flac does not cause any loss. However, flac has a feature: Eliminating bursts of sound. In other words, flac uses mute to replace the burst sound caused by some specific reasons. There is another difference: the compression ratio of ape is a little higher than that of flac, so the size of ape files is small, but for Walkman, because the ape algorithm is more complex than flac, therefore, more power consumption is required.

Now, let me summarize what I want to say.

1: Many people mistakenly think that lossless sound quality is inferior to that of CD. In fact, the worst hard disk is not damaged, and it is better to read the original CD than the daily price turntable. There is no such reason. Even if the turntable is good, there are read errors, but the hard disk cannot read errors. The key is that you need to obtain a non-destructive error.

2: mutual conversion between ape and WAV does not cause any loss. The same wav-converted ape may have different bit rates, but the ape sound quality varies with bit rates. The same is true for FLAC. Do not think that the FLAC sound of L10 is better than that of l0. the FLAC of L10 is only smaller in size and consumes more power.
